Replacement lighting

Hi everyone,

I've just brought myself a used Interpet Fish Box 48 (approx. 45x36x34cm) for the princely sum of £5. It's actually in very good condition - with the exception of the light unit which is completely shot.

Anyway, my plan for the tank is to set it up as a very low tech but fairly heavily planted planted tank. At the moment I'm trying to find a good replacement light fitting but have become very confused with what's on offer - I'm trying to keep the setup cost as low as possible as well, so have been looking at LED lights by Novatouch and the-aqua-man on eBay. The tank won't be exposed to a huge amount of natutal light where it's going to be setup. Does anyone have any recommendations that would fit into the slightly awkwardly shaped hood? I was planning on keeping the lid as my cats wouldn't think twice about going fishing.

I'm sure I'll have plenty of other basic questions along the way but at the moment, every time I feel I've understood something I read another article that just confuses me more!

Thanks in advance,

Nick

Hi all,
I've got one of these I bought for £5 as well.

I've just put 2 x "E27 cool white Corn Spot light LED lamps". They were from Hong Kong via Ebay and about £8 each including p&p.

They weren't meant as a permanent option, but they've worked so well I haven't done anything else. The lamps have got machined aluminium heat sink backs, but they still run quite hot so I don't use the reflecter cover from the tank lid.

cheers Darrel

Thanks for the reply - could you send me a link to it on eBay - sounds like they might be a winner - and have you got any pictures of how you've mounted them?
Thanks again!
Nick

Ah - I see - the light fitting in mine has been removed so although the plastic moulding that held the fitting is still there, the fitting itself isnt.
