EI Starter kit

Yesterday I got an EI starter kit from Aquarium plant food. The online instuctions are pretty clear and fool proof. What I would like to know is when I dose the ferts do I need to keep the carbon filter out of my filter. I have been advised to keep the carbon filter out for two days after adding the tap safe chemical after a water change. I cannot find any advise on this, can anyone help?
