That is used to show on your news feed, but like Michael says there are other ways to achieve the same thing, most people won't even know what the news feed is! lol Think everyone should start following @john6

    Pro shrimp awful plants

They are fine if you buying standard goods (i.e. shrimp food) but I had issues with plants from them many moons ago also! But still buy dry goods if the price is right.

    Maq's Substrate Experiment

Thanks @Geoffrey Rea for posting that, sometimes it's worth reading those again, did take a long time to get those right, and my vision for UKAPS when all the Founders/Admins lost interesting in UKAPS and left me to it pretty much to handle on my own for over a decade, was to create a nice and...

How multicoloured LEDs came to be!

It is sad what he got out of it in the end! so much greed by these large corps!

How multicoloured LEDs came to be!

Quite interesting how multicoloured LED's were created! and how long it took for it to be developed! How it was possible to create our aquarium LEDs :) one of the scientists was called Amano!

    Theatre - Why so Expensive

I used to go almost every year to see Cirque do Soleil and the last couple of years has been crazy! Used to pay around £60-75 for good seats right at the front, and now those seats cost an extra £100 each! I have noticed gig tickets also have gone up 40-50%.

Journal Biotope of Chorhun river (Crimea, Ukraine)

I kept a blue one before and loved it, they have such great characters, but make sure your tank is fully sealed, any holes and it will escape lol Mine outgrew the 60l tank when it got to 25cm in size, took it back to the LFS! Would love to keep one again!

Is Tom Barr's Approach Still The Go To Approach For Low Tech?

Problem is instant gratification and throwing everything at it without learning the basics, then most fail and give up on the hobby! which is a shame!

Is Tom Barr's Approach Still The Go To Approach For Low Tech?

I would say if you want to churn out Aquascapes every 6-12 months for competitions etc and want super fast growth to get the photoshoot you need then CO2 and high ferts are a must to get that. As I always advise newcomers, you dont need hight light and high everything (all the gear no idea) to...

    Suggestion Listing current equipment

You can easily place that on your profile or signature, but then again most people have multiple tanks. Rather than ask a million questions all over the place, start a journal, list all your stuff, show progress, post questions on your journal, then you have a proper log and everything is in one...

    UKAPS has passed 20,000 members.

At the moment with the current level of sponsors we are well-balanced, we keep a reserve to support us for a year, if that reserve starts to decline then we will have to be more open about it, I just don't like asking for money from members and we make the best effort in the background to secure...

    UKAPS has passed 20,000 members.

Primarily keeping the forum online and on a decent server/service. (host costs, software licensing costs, add-on costs). Then whatever is left we leave a contingency, and if that grows we can then look at a competition or host an event. Donations from member are actually very low, we do rely...

    CO2 reactor valve

Just a note, I would say never shut the valve on the reactor, the pressure from the CO2 can damage it and then it will leak! as some have experienced, I have been using mine for almost 3 years also! love it! never going back either! lol

    Filter recommendations for 30l tank.

I did warn you!! ;) For a tank that size I would rather get one these: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/120928619670?hash=item1c27e84c96:g:z9QAAOSwd4tTsUgA I run these in 3 tanks, biggest a 30l cube and its perfectly fine, I use the 450L/H version! longest running is about 4-5 years!
  43. LondonDragon

    Filter recommendations for 30l tank.

It's pretty good, I use it on a 60l tank and it has never looked so clean, it is quite big though, so check the dimenssions properly before you buy one, I originally brought it for my 12l tank and its bigger than the tank LOL

Some 3D printed coral later, its done! Setup today with some eggs next to my little freshwater planted setup. Now wait and see if the eggs hatch, will be feeding them spirulina!
  55. LondonDragon

    Enclosed ecosphere

Plan B should be ready to test soon ;)
  56. LondonDragon

    Enclosed ecosphere

I did try that with one of the experiments but made no difference, that one lasted slightly longer which might highlight the oxygen deficiency! Was worth a shot! ;) plan B into operation!
  57. LondonDragon

    Enclosed ecosphere

I have already started hacking the base of the ecosphere, and going to install a mini USB heater and USB air pump with air stone at the base, and plug a hole at the top, that way can still use the sphere just not an enclosed system! Just waiting for black silicone to arrive tomorrow to seal it...
  58. LondonDragon

    Enclosed ecosphere

Yeah, that is plan B ;) just not an enclosed system any more! 1695292415 did think about that, but some say hard to survive in that small container and no water movement!
  59. LondonDragon

    Enclosed ecosphere

Many thanks, guess I will have to give up on the idea of an enclosed system.
  60. LondonDragon

    Enclosed ecosphere

Won't the algae produce oxygen? I can see lots of bubble at the start when light is on, algae rises to the top of the tank with the oxygen bubbles!
  61. LondonDragon

    Enclosed ecosphere

Temp is stable at room temp, 22-23C, no movement, but I have a magnetic stirrer I could use, as closed system there is no way to get an airstone in there! I was hoping they would survive on algae alone! Guess its mission impossible then! 1695289963 Ah bummer! guess this is a no go then! What...
  62. LondonDragon

    Enclosed ecosphere

The idea was never to open the sphere again, so they won't survive on the algae alone?

You better off with a normal air stone during the night ;)

    Enclosed ecosphere

Morning everyone, Just a quick question in regards a tried and failed experiment with brine shrimp eco system in a sphere. I have been running the little 15cm cube in the office with the 3D printed mods for around 5 months and that is all going well, snails love it and got a couple of shrimp...

    DYI yeast CO2 question

When I used DIY CO2, during lights out I just had a strong air pump going, actually worked pretty well (depends where you have it, can be noisy, if in a bedroom) I found out that using two bottles linked together and alternate making the solution every other week in each bottle created the most...

I have a feeling its the snails, as there are 2-3 hundred snails in there! How to turn my high tech into a low tech?

2 of them i perform a water change once a month, the other one maybe two a year! might be the high number of shrimp and snails in the 60l that keeps the plants going, although I dont have many species in there and mainly anubias!
