I'm thinking of building acrylic lids for my open tanks, I was just wondering if it will have any effect on my plants (obviously the acrylic will be between the light and the water). I'm aware that acrylic will allow almost all visible light to pass through so it's probably a stupid question. I only really want to keep the lids on while I'm out as the kitten is becoming more curious.

Acrylic is pretty optically clear, it's the condensation on the acrylic that blocks / diffuses the light. Drilling a few holes will stop the condensation.

Ok, thanks for confirming that, I work for an acrylic fabricator so a few holes / slots won't be a problem..... cheers
