I am planning to have a 20" high tank, with plants growing out of it. My book suggests lights should be no less than 18" above the surface in order not to burn leaves etc.
I am intending to get LEDs (Which probably didn't exist when my book was written). Do I need to be 18" above the surface? And does air diffuse light as much as water does? IE should I be trying to check out PAR at 38" (And therefore worrying), or at 20" (And therefore able to use just about any LED out there)? IS there a formula?
