Hi all, I'm starting a new tank, only a small one, around 30L, and was going to use Akadama. Would it be ok to put a layer of soil under this to help plant growth, if so what sort of soil? I'm talking about soil from a garden centre, not a specialised aquatic one.

I went down this path for my jungle nano so check out my journal for tips on substrate mate, ask away on there if you have any questions, otherwise I think going with john innes no.3 should be fine underneath, I included Irish peat moss but now if I did it differently I may of left it out.

Cheers! Jack :)
