I have some Taxiphyllum Flame.

I started the tank around mid September, tying the moss to the top of the wood and it's done rather well. It's become quite the safe haven for my shrimp, I've found multiple molts inside.

I was hoping it would spread downwards though.
Will this happen in time, I should I move it myself?

Take a look at Tim Harrison journal Naturescape , maybe move the Flame to another area as its looks good

Flame moss only grows upwards Im afraid. If u want a moss that grows downwards try out weeping moss. I have found java moss to be the ugliest so far cos it will grow messily unless trimmed.Only good if u need something free floating for fry and thats easy to grow.US fissidens is another favorite of mine.
