This is my set up and I currently have 8 cardinals in there. My original thought was to have a pair of Rams but the temperature difference is not ideal.

I’ve thought about maybe a pair of Peacock Goby’s or single Killifish but haven’t any experience with them.

Can anyone suggest something that would go with the cardinals and appreciate the cave are that could be kept in a pair or alone.

Killifish should be fine but you will need a lid, they like to jump. Keep a pair (male and female).

Also maybe think about some ottos and amano shrimp?

Rams stay out in the open. Kribensis are cave dweller, and don’t need high temp like rams. Other options are many Tanganyikan cave dwellers if your water has pH above 7.

There are quite a few cave liking fish nowadays.
Kribs
Gobies: peacocks, toraja gobies, gudgeons, bumblebee, dragons.
Khuli loaches.
Apistogrammas.
Catfish: suncats, oil cats, wood cats, cuckoos.
Eels: peacocks, spiny.
Something different: dwarf crayfish, vampire shrimp love caves.
Umbrella cichlids, Egyptian mouth brooders,
Cant think of any more atm.

Why not the rams you wanted? What the temperature of the tank ?

24c but from reading up Rams don’t do well in the lower 20’s over long periods and the higher temps they like is on the high side for my cardinals so not the best mix.
