    Changing to open top

That actually looks quite good, and it doesn't look too bad aesthetically. Not sure about how to hang it though - has anyone ever used that unit before? Also I presume that I would have to DIY some kind of cover to prevent water getting into the innards... Certainly a credible idea though.

    Changing to open top

Well that sorts that then - Hadn't noticed the fans. Thanks for the spot ^.^ Shall look at the All pond one a bit more, possibly get the one with fewer tubes. I've used them for filters and suchlike before & they seem a reliable supplier.

    Changing to open top

I'm not too worried about the bulbs it comes with as I have 4 of my own in the existing hood which will fit grand. Had been looking at the all pond solutions one but its about £100 dearer with the only benefit being able to turn 2 off which realistically would I use often... hmmm it might be...

    Changing to open top

Lo all! Thinking of changing from an enclosed hood with inbuilt lighting to an open top. Obviously this will require a new lighting infrastructure. It's a decent sized tank, 330L, 120cm across and 70cm deep. Don't want to break the bank - Has anyone heard / or used this brand before, it...

    330l rescape (sandy outcropping)

I actually did but wasn't 100% certain which crypt to go for as there is such a huge variety to choose from. I kept s. subulata a few years ago in a low tech set up and it did indeed end up getting quite large, I'm hoping with the co2, ferts & light it should encourage it to stay relatively...

    330l rescape (sandy outcropping)

Ha! Yes, I think sometimes it pays to have a single species as a central focus point for a scape. There's also a few sagitaria subulata around the base which should hopefully fill it out a bit in the next few weeks. I may move some of the rocks around a little in next few days, wouldn't mind...

    330l rescape (sandy outcropping)

Hi all, Spent a few hours rescaping my hi-tech, heavily planted and high maintenance 330l to something less intensive and more manageable. Due a lack of facilities to re-home the livestock whilst rescaping, the change was carried out in a 1/4 full tank which, as it involved a 90% substrate...

Play sand as cap on existing

Hi everyone, So I'm thinking its about time for a re-scape of my 330L. It's been up now for a year, hi-tech using solely cat litter as a substrate and I've had no problems whatsoever. Toying with the idea of going down the play sand route to change things up a bit but I'm not sure whether I...

Conversion of a high-tech to low-tec. Advice needed!

Thanks for the replies everyone! I'm having a read of your journal now brenmuk - it's great! I wouldn't worry about the plants melting etc as most of the species wouldn't be suitable anyway so I'd change almost all the flora. I'm still not sure what I'll end up doing, I'll most likely post...

Conversion of a high-tech to low-tec. Advice needed!

Hi everyone! Just a quick post to share my thoughts on an upcoming project of mine. It'd be great to get everyone's opinion / test the feasibility of my idea. Basically I've a 180L high-tech planted set up at the moment with a couple of discus and cardinals etc. Unfortunately I simply don't...

    Adding a T5 tube to a T8 Rio 180.

Thanks for the quick reply! Don't worry on that regard, I am dosing CO2 and various ferts. The only problem I'm having is a shedding off leaves lower down the plants, leaving them bare and "stalky" but super top-heavy, which I believe is due to low light levels, hence why I want to know if it's...

    Adding a T5 tube to a T8 Rio 180.

Hey everyone! Ok, basically I've got a Rio 180 tank, with the standard hood containing 2 x T8's (30W's) I want to increase my light output to grow some of the more demanding plant species. I can't exactly or justify a spanking new T5 setup so was wondering if there was any way to add...

FE regulator / solenoid combo wanted!

Hey everyone! Long time reader, first time poster (go me!) Just in the process of setting up my first Co2 rig. Been using EasyCarbo for the last 8months and going great but I've finally decided to take the plunge into complete Co2! Ive managed to get everything on the cheap as I'm a student...
