looks like it's back to the drawing board on the cat litter substrate,,, this fullers earth stuff sounds like it could be worth a try ? any tips on where i can get some and what to look for ?

the plants i,m planning of using are ferns,mosses, a easy to grow carpet plant and some stems nothing to demanding untill i get the hang of growing plants. thanks mark

tested my tap water and the results make me think i,m going to struggle keeping plants because it very hard water PH - 7.4 GH - 340 ppm or 19.31 'dh KH - 220 ppm will this be ok ???

would using a reverse flow under gravel filter help along side my internal filter ( a juwel jumbo filter ) i could make my own ugf plates and attach the moss to that ? thanks mark

i intend to grow all the other plants on some large peices of mopani wood ( various ferns and other moss's and maybe some anubius ) a bit different to other tanks i know but is for my altums and a large shoal off tetra's a bit of a twist on a amazon theme.

if any,, i,m toying with idea of a complete carpet of java moss on entire base of a tank (3x2) would i need a substrate or could i just grow the plant on a grid of egg crate. if a substrate is required which one do i go for. thanks mark

i didnt want a yeast type but a pressurised, the diy extinguisher way sounds good to me. i,ll have a look throught he tutorials. thanks mark

the t8 tubes are cheap enough :D so i can get few and experiment with the colour balance, thanks for your help...

yes i looked at lampspecs, they do a 5200k which might be ok, should i run the t8,s with a higher k or go lower than the 5200k halide lamp.

thanks for the replys Aaron, i do have another option i think i could use, i have a arcadia series 3 metal halide unit it,s a single 250w with 2 x t8 tubes. i have looked at verious bulb supplies but can only find a 4000k lamp that will fit, i,m finding it hard to find FC-2 250w metal halide...

if i wanted to go high tech? would 4 x 39w t5's be enough. sorry for all the questions, :oops: i,m new to the planted tank game.
