Re: Auto Dosing EI with a dosing pump (diagram and calculati
Thinking about the automated dosing route.
Anyone tried D-D peristaltic pump 1ml/minute?

pricier but would seem more reliable with 4 rollers.
from your planting plan it looks like the vertical section will be the focal point. As such I'd go for set up 3 with the vertical section at the golden/ magic/ whatever point, so a bit more to the right. Are you going to use any other hardscape?
That's a good idea to use a t piece and taps at each junction (may add to the resistance though.) wanted to do a similar thing when I got my external but couldn't find a good 3 way valve (didn't think of using a t-piece- doh!).
Use a compact 600 as the outlet pipe is the same diameter as...
Been pretty busy over last month or so and unfortunately have neglected the tank a bit. Went away for 10 days over xmas and when I came back all the plants were overgrown. However this had the beneficial effect of acting like a feedback loop as it blocked light and so slowed growth and demand...
Thanks for the reply.
Not sure if you've answered this already or elsewhere, but how have you found this substrate compare to commercial ones like ADA?
Can you use the sphagnum moss peat straight from the bag or do you need to treat it some way before using it in an aquarium- i.e. does it have any nasties that need to be boiled out?
Is there any specific brand that's good for aquaria or is it all pretty much the same stuff?
Also if you're...
Island scape would work well, as you are effectively creating an island with your divider- white sand, gravel, landscape rock and wood. Or instead of the sand create an HC or hairgrass carpet using tom's dry start method.
Another alternative would be a triangular arrangement with the highest...
From what I've seen this does seem to be useful if you don't have low flow but not high flow systems. I can see how it should have a greater surface area to sintered glass as it is effectively individual sand grains but like you say, it doesn't seem to have any great advantage in a planted tank.
THanks for the comments.
Planning a rescape in the new year. Going to move the volcanic rock to the the right and maybe get rid of the other "tower" all together. This will give more room and give a more traditional triangular arrangement. I knew the current arrangement was aesthetically...
Found this page about rainbow filter specifications:

Interestingly it says that 9lb of media gives 642 square feet. Looking at my ehfisubstrat pro it says it has 450 square meters per litre which equates to 4843 sq ft per 1.8lb, or 24215 sq...
Some of the american websites tout them as great for planted tanks because they are a closed set up and so don't lose co2. The other advantage is that they seem to be able to react to changes in ammonia a lot quicker than conventional filters. I imagine this would be a big advantage in planted...
I think flow might be the main issue. I have vallis crawling all over the place and although it does look good I've noticed it breaks up the flow a lot. Having the same problems with algae (GSA/ GDA). However if you give the vallis a trim just above the surface and put the moss on the wood, it...
