    Narrow timers

Kudos to the photo in the first page with the co2 cylinder, peristaltic pump & bulk fertilisers, if I didn't know any better I would think your growing marijuana!

    TMC LED light query

Hi All, I have a 50L fishtank with some small tetras & 3 'Dwarf Curviceps' . It has a few plants- some Cryptocoryne (doing well) and some background hornwort rotted in some laterite, doing well. Anyway, the tank is lit by a TMC 'Grobeam' 500 LED light on the scale up/ scale down TMC...

    Clown Loach Question

Sorry! My fault. Don't know where I got 6ft from  They do get pretty big though, they are a food fish in the far East.

Why is my Amazon Frogbit dying?

Hello, I had some Amazon friobit in my tank, it was under a TMC Grobeam under a condensation tray in medium-soft water with occassional Interpet 'Flora Boost' fertilising and growing well. I came from Chrimbo holidays and did a 50% water change, added some (quartz-like) black gravel and removed...

    Clown Loach Question

Clown loaches can grow to 6ft.. the larger they get, the larger snails they they will eat (and ignore the smaller ones), also you need to keep them in a shoal of 6 minimum really. W

    Legality of Collecting Wood

Bloody parakeets, they make a hell of a racket over Richmond golf course. Allegedly they escaped from Pinewood studios in Bedford while they were making a tropical-themed movie. Have seen them as far afield as Ramsgate (Kent). Thanks for the input W

fish swimming up and down repeatedly

Has anyone observed their fish swimming up and down against the glass in the same spot for a long period of time? Yes should I be worried? No. When animals are fed by humans they quickly lost the urge to 'forage' so all sorts of behaviour may emerge. The fish is probably just killing time...

can someone kindly explain this water chemical analysis?

The first 3 variables are the ones of i nterest. The 'total system' worksheet lays it out quite clearly, youv'e got your hardness, 200 mg/ L (Calcium carbonate) which is on the hard side, pH (~7.5, alkaline) and further down in the nutreients youve got the nitrate content (11.3 not bad)...

    Legality of Collecting Wood

Hmmm... Odd-shaped roots are of no value to commercial woodsmen as they are too awkward to transport, saw & burn in enormous masses.. If the wood has large growths of lichen or moss then I would leave it to be part of the woodland biomass... In London, alot of treefall is swept up and...

    Trapped

Strange! What is that fish that anyway?

    The expense of hard water....

Thanks. Yes Peat will soften the water but the way London water is (extremely hard, 18 DH as some people have mentioned) it is cheaper and less hassle to use RO, plus it takes out the nitrates.

    Recommended lighting

Is that 80x45x45 inches? If so I recommend using 2 TMC Grobeam LEDs, they come in at 490mm long each though you will have to suspend them, the light is quite intense and they produce less heat. Works for me. Will

    LED LIGHTING

FWIW I am using a TMC Grobeam and my plants are growing very well. Tank is 12" deep, with small Echinodorus and Aponogenton crispus.

    The expense of hard water....

Thanks all, I guess the majority are against me here. An RO unit is far too expensive, though I might start using 50:50 RO and tapwater instead to save money (makes measuring it out easier), then gradually reduce it. On the plus side, I have noticed that there are much less scum lines and...

    The expense of hard water....

Hello Board, I live in London, to those of you not in London that means limescale on EVERYTHING, alkaline tapwater (average 7.9 but generally around 8.3) and a hardness of 200-300mg/L total. This does not lend itself to beautiful fish (although all the shops keep their stock in tapwater)...
