Pretty good guess Paul, I cant come up with anything better I concur, but I think that should read "helferi"

I think that it is Mondo Grass.. a non aquatic.

I have cyperus helphery and Ophiopogon japonicus (Mondo grass), and that pic looks really like Mondo grass.

I concur, bought enough of that useless plant over the years (well before the days of UKAPS!), looks good for a few weeks then rots

Often sold as wheat grass, or something of that ilk.

Thanks for all your help guys.The blades of the grass are very robust/coarse. I initially thought it was blyxa japonica when i bought it but then had my doubts when i got it home, its also too tall for my scape. The shop wasn't too sure what it was. Does any one have any blyxa japonica for sale?

Definitely not Cyprus Helferi, as the roots on your plant are quite thick. C. Helferi has quite fine roots, like vallis etc.
