Yesterday i was changing the water and i could not believe the amount of rubbish was collecting at the bottom of the stem plants. The plants look great from about half way up the plant but from there and down to the substrate it was just rubbish, old leaves and general rubbish no wonder some people struggle with water conditions. So i have removed the stem plants and now just keeping vallis grypts and amazon sword plants. The reason behind this is i want to keep a pair of discus in the tank so water conditions need to be very good. Are there any stem plants with thick stem and are more robust that i could keep.

Many Hygrophila species are easy. Common ones are Hygrophila polysperma and Hygrophila difformis

Shrimps help keep this type of thing away, as does good water flow.
