Question's in the title, how low can you keep stems?

I have very limited space in my cube, and am not using any hardscape or 'midground' plants so to speak. I have Glosso in the front and stems in the back. I'd like to slope the stems down as low as possible in the front. Can they go down to an inch or so?

Most will go as low as an inch....preferably, with at least a single node. I always cut leaving maybe 3 nodes.

Amano recommends cutting down to 3 inches, then every trim after that increase it by 1 inch above the initial cut...etc etc...This all depends on the height of the tank of course.
