is an old reef filter ok for planted?

Hi all
I have just purchased a Eheim 2080 secondhand, the filter used to be used on a marine tank.
What i'd like to know is would this be ok on a planted tank? It has no media and i have replaced the pipes from the filter, the intake and outtake as i wasn't a fan of the Eheim green.
Was going to use http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/fish/filt ... lter/13340 for media. Didn't know if any of the salts or anything used in a marine tank would be an affect on mine after i have replaced with these bits. Thanks in advance

Just remove any remaining salt from the filter (maybe use warm water and rinse it), and check any metal parts that might go nasty quicker in salt water. If all that's OK, you should be fine. Check the seals too.

Hi Toad,
Yes, just soak it and wash it out to dissolve any remaining salt and it will be fine. The media set you linked to is fine.

change all the rubber seals just to be on the safe side thats what i did when i bought my 2076
