Hey everyone,
I need help
I have a hightech planted tank with 350 Liters.
I m having a unknown brown algae, it looks like cotton.

Here is my setup

Tank specifications - 120x50x60
Lighting - 2x150w Mh or Hqi (4 hours) and 2x54 T5 (0 hours now)
CO2 - Pressurised
Filtration - Eheim 2080 and fluval 205
Fertilisation routine - I was doing Elos but i started EI today.

The algae are on the plantas and in the substrate.
The tank has 3 months old, i was with 2x150w (2 hours) and 2x54w(5 hours), but i incrised de mh and turned off the t5 too see if it was because of the t5 lamps. I dont know if it too much light....
The Mh bulb have 1 year old, can it be the cause?

Here are the photos:

Waiting for help :(

Too much light in an unstable tank. Go back to the older configuration, until things settle down. To add more light you need more co2.

The age of the lamp really shouldn't matter.

It's a type of diatom, which in this case, I'd choose amano shrimp over ottos.

Hi Mark,
Thanks for your help.
Can you advise me of a lighting period that i should have in my tanK?

I'd go back to basics.

2 54wt5 for maybe 6 or 7 hours a day, until you've managed to eradicate your problems. Then from there, balance your co2 and ferts and if required, add metal halides for maybe 1 hour per day.

Watch for problems, and increase or decrease your lighting.

As Mark "the master of low light" Evans has said, reduce the lighting.

Removing as much as possible and plenty of good water changes will all help in eradicating the algae. How is your flow around the tank? Can we assume you are using a drop checker with 4dkh water and reagent to give an accurate reading?

Fixing flow, co2 distribution, good maintenance and controlling light is the way to win this fight.

Good luck.
