Hi all,
It isn't strictly a "moss", it is a "thalloid liverwort". Mosses and liverworts used form the division "Bryophyta", but because this is thought to be a "paraphyletic grouping" of plants it is now split into 3 monophyletic groups, mosses (Bryophyta), hornworts (Anthocerotophyta), and liverworts (Marchantiophyta).

Pretty much, that is the "thalloid" bit, and why it doesn't look like a moss <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thallus>.

You can also get "leafy" liverworts (non-thalloid) and they look much more moss like <http://www.ukaps.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=12859&hilit=+leafy+liverwort>.
