Re: 350 Gallon iphone pics

I adjusted the CO2 and cleaned the tank real well for GDA, then they hit it again while I was out for a week.
70% water changes.
Also used the API algaefix to see if it was effective.

Hard to say since there was no control in the test and the tank was in that touchy sensitive new start up phase where the plants have not established yet and biomass is very low etc.
Fish were added a couple of weeks too soon also for the client.

I think once the plants took off, then the GDA would have likely gone away anyhow. But hard to say what did what.
Chemicals never fix the root issues, they only kill what might be there right then and now.
So they are of little use for long term or root problems.

The product worked on some test I did with hair algae, Cladphora and Spirogyra.
Those are harder to get rid of for most hobbyists I'd say than GDA.
Algae fix did kill and eradicate those with a control test in both a bare bottom tank with just infested plants added, as well as a fully planted tank.

CO2 reduction is a good way to induce Spirogyra with high light.
Then algae it for 3 days and watch.
Kills inverts, shrimp, but not snails, so cannot be used unless you remove the shrimp or do not have them.

Back to small fish:

6-7 week stage, I did not have much Gloss so I used a lot of Elatine, so it'll be another 5 weeks or so for the other end to fill in right.
This end is okay.

Tank's been running really well the last 3-4 weeks now.
Got algae bad in the 2nd and 3rd week's, but then cleared up nicely thereafter.

That piece of wood is impressive, but the aquascape as a whole is absolutely stunning.

I will start mowing next Monday. Later, I'll load the before and after pics and show recovery rates.

I just turned the light on, so the tank is sleepy, so are the fish.

I will likely remove the weedy Hairgrass and replace with Isoetes or something.
I have some more larger Rock on the way, so I'll redo some of that also.

If this thread was not titled as such I would never have thought it was 350 gallon by just looking at this photo. I think it is because we (or just me) have got so used to seeing the opposite; relatively small tanks planted in such a way as to give the impression of a much larger scape.

Stunning tank Tom. I would be interested to know how much CO2 it uses?

I burn though a 20lb tank about once every 2 months. Something like that.
I'll be modifying my NW CO2 methods with a reactor to catch the mist and only allow a tiny amount to weasel through.
This should improve water clarity which is important for pics and for larger tanks, smaller tanks do not matter much.
