I think it will grow aquarium plants very well but that will be a lot of light over a small area. You'll need to suspend well above the tank.

Yes I thought that or perhaps it would work well on a deep tank
yeah, looks like it would grow all sorts of plants like weeds.....or chillies 
Yeah, and in a tank it will grow mostly algae.

I went into a hydroponics place today looking for clay balls hydroleca and what an experience that was, totally forgot what I went in for after 2 minutes head was spinning
