I found this orchid in the road about two months ago & placed its pot over my tanks overflow & today it repaid me with this...

Hi Foxfish,
Nice find and a rewarding splash of colour :)
Do any of the roots dip into the overflow or does it just sit above in its pot?
Cheerio,
Ady

Now we are talking... aquascaping and orchids do it for me but I've never thought of starting a thread on it. Good on you mate. I did a similar thing with all of my orchids when I first bought them... Site them next to the tank and let the roots dip into the tank that had EI dosing. This seems to boost the growth without having to use specialist ferts for the orchids. they used to get a regular dipping of the waste water during water changes and sit proudly on several windows and the sideboard. Lighting is essential as well. Unfortunately now that I have wound down my main tank ready for a move I am having to resort to an orchid fert spray followed by a weekly water soak in summer and monthly in winter. Not sure if any of this helps anyone, but the water you remove from the tank does wonders for other house plants as well. Just remember to give those plants pots a soak once in a while in fresh water to rid of excess salt residue. Thumbs up, good looking orchid
