Purigen and Aqua + Plus

Hi all, can anyone tell me if it is ok to use Nutrafin Aqua + Plus water conditioner with Seachem Purigen, as I use Aqua + Plus when I do a water change, or should I gust get some Prime instead as it is recommended by Seachem.

I believe you should only use prime along with purigen. I think iys something to do with a coating other water conditioners leave on the purigen itself

I read somewhere on here recently that its the unknown ingredients that do things other than remove heavy metals and chlorine that clog purigen. Prime is known not to contain such ingredients. There will be others too but prime treats a lot if water and is probably the best value

Yep, some of the 'stress coat' type additives in some water conditioners clog the Purigen in a way that prevents it being regenerated.

Would the additives affect regular bio media in the same way impeding effectiveness by coating it with the stress coat?

I've never heard of any problems like that. It probably just passes over biomedia, but Purigen sucks it out of the water and then won't release it when you try to regenerate it.

HI, thanks for the replies. I think I will go and get some prime and stick with that from now on.
