Hi Everyone
I received the above tank for Christmas and I've decided to document it's progress in a journal. I'm hoping to have some CRS in this tank with no fish. I've only sorted out hardscape so far which includes:
  • TMC Nutrasoil
  • Blue Seiryu stone
  • Redmoor root wood
I'm hoping to have an island of plants in the left corner, leaving the right of the tank more open. I'm yet to get a filter and I don't think this light will be permanent, hopefully I'll be able to get an LED at some point. This could well be a mess of a journal but hopefully someone can make sense of it! Anyway, on with the pictures:

Any constructive critisicms on the hardscape are welcome!

Cheers:)

I think it looks good. What light unit is that?
Thanks Curvball:) It looks a bit flat at the moment but once the plants are in it should look better. The light is actually a part of the Aquael Nano Reef set: AQUAEL DECOLIGHT DUO MARINE 22w, BLACK or WHITE, T5, LIGHT UNIT, BLUE REEF CORAL | eBay It is a marine one so comes with a blue bulb also, although it has been very problematic with bulbs blowing all of the time. I just have the white bulb left after many replacements!
Cheers:)

Wahey going all ADA, bet that didn't leave many other presents ha
You bet Ali! :D I was spoilt rotten, but this was certainly a highlight!

I really fancy a mini m. Or 3
Haha, go for it mate! This one's really nicely made without much silicone, which is always a bonus!:)

Hi everyone
Got this one filled and planted as I was sick of looking at an empty tank!:) It looks fairly shabby at the moment but the plants are yet to grow in.
Plant List:
  • Rotala Wallichii
  • Cryptocoryne wendtii 'Green'
  • Echinidorus Bleheri
  • Staurogyne Repens
  • Rotala Rotundifolia
  • Hydrocotyle Tripartita 'Japan'
  • Microsorum Pteropus
Unfortunately, the redmoor root floated so I've had to put a stone on top of it to weigh it down. I have ordered my filter which should be arriving in the next few days, an Eden 501. I'm quite happy with how the tank looks, I can't wait until it grows in! Apologies for the reflections!

Looks lovely mate. Daily water changes for a long time without a filter though. Do you have some media to pop in to get it started? How are your other tanks going BTW?

Cheers Ali!:D I forgot to say in my post but I have a temporary one in there at the moment. In the top right of the tank, just a small one but is surprisingly powerful! I think the filter is due to arrive Mon, Tue or Wed. I've just fitted a black background to this tank as well. Not the most exciting update pic but will put a pic up tomorrow.:) The 20 litre's still going strong, plants aren't in the best condition at the moment but will post an update tomorrow. I need to get busy!
Cheers:)

Just a few quick update photos for this one. I took delivery of my new external (Eden 501) on the 6th and I'm really happy with it. It's got just the right flow for this tank. Also fitted a black background!;) I've added more plants since the last pic too, courtesy of Hoggie. Hoping to get my Pygmy Cories in this weekend. And yes, I know I said it would be fishless... I took out the stone on top of the wood, it was becoming an eye sore!

Pygmy cories are going to be directly competing with your crs for space are they not? Won't they eat baby shrimp and small juveniles? The shrimp will spend all their time hiding from these fish.

Interesting point Lindy. They are probably the same size as the CRS so they shouldn't be too intimidated. As for eating babies, I have lots of young shrimp in my holding tank and none have been eaten. I can always take them out if they are bothering them.:)

Looks really great!!

Thanks guys! It's killing me waiting for them to grow Mitchell! Low tech is good once it's going but painfully slow to begin with! I'll look forward to your journal.:)

Long overdue update time, I think! This tank had a bad time with algae (mainly Diatoms) but is slowly getting out of it. Plant growth has slowed slightly but still a good rate, considering I don't have any CO2. As could have been predicted, this is not a shrimp only now.... I saw some Ember Tetras in my LFS today and had to get some! I came home with 11 (after asking for 10:D ) and they seem to be settled nicely. Here's a few pictures:

Sorry for the awful picture quality, I'm not very good with a camera!;)

How are the pygmy cories doing?
Hi Lindy,
Pygmy cories still in my other nano, now that I have the Embers I'll maybe try and catch them to put them in in the near future.:) I have just 5 now as I lost one to an unknown cause.:(

Got some decent pics of the Embers schooling this morning!

Hi everyone
Another picture update which I took during and after a water change. Still struggling a little bit with algae but hopefully it won't be for too much longer! The Embers are colouring up really nicely and it looks like I might have a mix of males and females.:) Anyway, here's a few pictures I took (first time with a tripod!;))
