Hi all

After me moving, I was exploring locally as I'm kind of up in hills etc now and found a shallow river where there's rocks pieces of driftwood etc

(one I brought home)

Amd I noticed a big shoal of tiny fish congregated in an area with less flow. I'm no expert on cold water fish but they were stunning to look at above so I walked in and took the best picture I could on my phone but I'd disturbed the sandy bottom so it's clouded the pool area they were in.

I'm just curious to know what they are if anyone who does river fishing etc can identify them

I haven't seen these wee beauties in years. Used to keep some in a cold water tank as a teenager.

100% minnows. Go back in the spring and you'll see them in their spawning colours. The males look amazing with vivid reds and greens and bright white spawning tubercles over their heads.

Minow. :)
