Hi there. Just wondered if anyone out there have kept amano's shrimp with hc? I bought some hc to put in my tank but I kept on seeing amano's shrimp on top of it plucking at the leaves. All I've got left now are stalks. Anyone else had this problem?

I keep amanos with micranthemum 'monto carlo' which is very similar to hc. I've never seen them eat any leaves and have no bare stalks. Perhaps the amanos are slightly starved of food, if you have very little algae and lots of shrimp you may need to supplement their food with algae wafers or fresh foods such as courgette. If they are starved and the hc isn't in great health (emersed to submerged) it may become food.

Good luck sorting it out :)

Could well be food. Everything else in the tank is fine. I used to have gloso carpet and they left that alone. I've never fed amano's on anything other than what little fish food gets down there and there is not much algae at all in the tank. Don't know why I never thought of shrimp food. Will give it a go. Can you recommend any food in particular for the amanos?

I'm sure most things will be fine, I currently chuck in a Hikari Algae Wafer or some JBL nova prawn granuals (because they are what my lfs had) now and then. Basically any veg based or shrimp specialist food will be fine, just make sure not to add too much, otherwise it could cause ammonia/algae or mean they eat less nuisance algae.
