Hello guys,

It has been a while since I have had anything to do with tanks but have a new challenge in mind. I want to set up a freshwater UK based river system, I only imagine having some giant vallis and cabomba so actual light quality is not a major issue.

I am looking for ideas on the most suitable light units for a tank of 5x2x2 please.

Thanks

I know this isn't a plant-based question, but any particular reason you've chosen Cabomba and Vallisnera? There's a number of commerially available plants that would suit a river type setup well. Ranunculus aquitilis is the most common plant I see when I go trout fishing.

With regards to lighting, I'd go for something strong so you can get a good coating of biofilm and algae. This will give the most natural feel to the aquarium.

What's your budget?

2 off 1200mm versions of these of 5 foot tank will give you give you more than enough light to grow virtually anything. Make sure you get a controller to keep light way down low when starting.

These are 5400lumens compared to a T5 HO of 4900 lumens.

Or something like this.
