Hi i currently have an aqua-nano 40 aquarium with the stock 18 watt pfl bulb which only seems to grow anubias and java fern. I want to start growing medium light plants but don't want to go down the C02 route.

I was thinking of buying the boyu 3 x 8 watt t5 light but not sure if this would be too much light and i'd end up needing CO2 , or if i took one bulb out to take it down to 16 watt and this being to little light. i have also been looking at led lighting but don't no where to start.

the aquarium is 45 liter and the link to the light is below.

Thanks for the reply john, could you use the full 24 watt without co2 , and did you get much joy with the light.

I run an AquaNano 40, under Spring Passage if you're interested. Initially a TMC MiniLED 400, which I upgraded to a Grobeam 600. However I do inject C02, that would be overkill for a low tech. Look into the MiniLED 400 maybe?

Cheers, Joe

Hi thanks for all the replies, appreciate it . The light that came with my aqua nano 40 wasn't the led version it was the pl one which is not that good.
Only looking for a cheap light, three that i have found are hidom al 3 , hidom al 4 and the boyu 3 x 8 watt
