Hi Dave, This Algae is not such a problem. Do water changes and use a hose to suck out as much as you can each day 5 or so liters and clean the rocks with a tooth brush plus give the the filter a clean. Should go in a couple of weeks.

yes, i'd say is brown diatoms. all algae are bad, but brown diatoms are the least bad imo. eventually it will go away. it tends to feed on silica (aka sand). once it's food source is used up it dies off. otto catfish eat it. amano shrimp will nibble it too i believe. wc'es and manual remove are your best bet.

I had it for 2 months looking the same like yours, keep up the water changes, brush it off and syphon it out as much as you can. Don't get frustrated, even tho it is frustrating, it might be back in a few hours looking again like you've done nothing. After a while once the cycle is broken you see it disappear as fast as it came. I did water changes and syphoning it out every day, After 6 weeks I added 15 amano shrimps, dunno if that was the trick, but relatively soon after that it declined to almost zerro in 2 weeks time. :)

Thanks guy for your help.
The tank has had a good clean and look nice. We are just about to go to buy some ottos!
