Hi All
Some 30 years ago I used to have a hardy easy to grow crypt with red underleaves and red/purple stems leaves were darkish green on top and around 4-6 inches long
Firstly what might it have been ,and any available
Thanks

Thanks but not this one, leaves a bit broader and not so pointed if memory serves, slight undulations also

Funny, this one........I had that exact Crypt. too.........and I have ben looking for it ever since !! It was called Crypt affinis, then - but the plants I have been able to source of that name are defenitely not the same as my "memory plant".
It was spread by private tank keepers and local aquatic get-together-groups, because it was really hardy and grew for everyone.
Your description; fresh, dark (emerald) green, hammered leaves with deep burgundy underside. Quite slender and long leaf-plate connected to relatively thin leaf-stem. Spreading rapidly by quite long runners. A real beauty and very tolerant and adaptable........
The closest I've come is one of the Crypt. usteriana types - but it is not totally alike. Especially not on growth-behaviour.

Yes affinis was mentioned but as you say not the same plant and Crypt. usteriana looks very much like it

I remember that Crypt affinis too from 40 years ago. Really easy to grow (no ferts and no CO2), beautiful looking. I wonder where it went ?

How about this one..??

Not so very red in color in the film though, but the "crispatula" I`ve seen at some local auctions here in Stockholm are..
..maybe just a matter of what nutrients+/which light-suorce/ pH (or else) you`ve got..??

Cryptocoryne crispatula var balansae.... ( or similar/other variant.. ??)

..and if the "crispatula var." is not the correct one,, maybe you will find it here...?:);)

Could be Cryptocoryne affins red!

In both of my tanks. It's just not trendy anymore.
I don't care if it's not trendy.I have just managed to get the same species of fish back I had back then and would like to get the same plant just for old times sake

I think I have seen most var.s of C. crispatula, by now, be it in red, green, bronce, extra narrow and from different locations.........and they are all very far from "it", sorry.
I've seen several C. affinis (most of them defenitely not "affinis", but name will sell!!!) - and none of those are "it".
Like I said, one of the C. usterians variants is the closest match by looks - not as "rich" in colour, doesn't grow as easy and is not so tolerant.

It definately sounds like c.affinis to me, tough as old boots spread quite quickly...... for a crypt! It isn't at all easy to find. I spent over 15 years searching for this and eventually found some via eBay last year
