Internet search has brought me back here a few times now, but none seem to be showing what I'm seeing! These lines are physical damage on the leaves; however my flow is borderline non existent, so I just can't see it being that.

Also, this damage didn't exist (I think) before adding a bunch of Otocinclus. I think my Oto's are giving my Heteranthera zosterifolia a hard time!

Any suggestions? I'm tempted to take them back to the shop, and wave bye to the £40 I spent on them!

Looks like something is bending your leaves. Do the ottos rest on the leaves and the leaves get bent?

Yeah, I have noticed them grazing on them, so that's my first thought, perhaps Heteranthera zosterifolia is a little more fragile than I thought.

I think its some sort of deficiency , but cannot help you because i don't know what it is .

Problem is, with a deficiency, I would expect to see other symptoms, admittedly, a new leaf on the Echinodorus Palaefolius is a light brown/red/green colour, with darker edging, (again, I'm like hmmm) but I am not sure this is a deficiency.

I should add, new leaves on the Heteranthera zosterifolia are all looking really healthy.

1/ new leaves of Ech. palaefolius is often a red-ish colour. This is very normal. Leave will turn all green over time.
2/ Heteranthera zosterifolia IS more fragile in leavs, than most other plants. The damage on yours is defenitely some kind of 'mechanical' - but what exactly causes it is "your guess is as good as mine"....... one possibility is, that some leaves are damaged in the process of growing, from center. This would give those 'damage-lines'.

Okay, thanks Mick.Dk, that's reasurring on the Echinodorus Palaefolius, it's been growing really well from the start.

Shame about Heteranthera zosterifolia's fragility; it's going to push me to temporarily rehome the otocinclus to see if they are a cause. I've had the Heteranthera zosterifolia for around 40 days from 1-2 grow pot, and they've grown to 25cm or so in height, so I'm going to trim them down to 6inches to encourage new growth I think, I'm sure I've read that it is advisable to do so.

I had something similar see pic. Only mine was ammonia poisoning was still cycling tank and had no fish
