Hi UKAPS,

New member starting out here with a question.

I have a cycled tank 60L Fluval Flex but want to swap out my sons multi coloured gravel for proper substrate
We have basic plants and a shoal of tetras with some snails, levels are all good
I plan to put in some volcanic base/sand/dennerle substrate, and top it off with black fine gravel
I will keep a cup full of the existing substrate and reintroduce this to keep the bacteria going

Do i have to wait for a full cycle again?
Can i maybe save 60-70% of the existing water and put that back in?
Do need to add in anything else please

thanks

Welcome to UKAPS, Its going to involve removing the fish, keeping the benefical bacteria going I would think, check the substrates section ,sure there its been asked before

Good to know thanks for the guidance
We have a quarantine tank where we will put the fish
Thanks man

Hello and welcome :) I'm pretty new here to. I'm sure I read that you have to be aware of any spike in ammonia after adding certain soil substrates so maybe have a wee look in the substrate section.
