Rotala rutundifolia be able to take two leaves or three as a node? Or have I two different species?

Occasionally my Rotala green grow three leaves per node for a branch and two leaves per node on another, in the same plant.
I also have a few Rotala rotundifolia. Some are two leaved, some three, not in the same plant but I believe it's possible. I might see it if I had enough number of them.
