I bought some in vitro bucephalandra "deep purple" and super glued it to some small stones. All the leaves have fallen off and my snails have removed all the dead matter. The rhizome is still green but they don't seem to be doing much. Is this just the plants adjusting to submerged conditions?.

This is definitely due to it trying to adapt to the new conditions, it's not doing too well, but could recover! I find in my non-CO2 tanks it easily melts like this if its is placed somewhere with far more light than it was receiving before. Can you move the rhizomes somewhere with more shade?

Personally I don't like using super glue if it can be avoided (I just use thread), as the plant cells die and rot where it comes into contact with the glue. For a healthy growing plant this makes little difference but it's another thing for an adapting plant to try and cope with.

This could be very true. Recently I bought some buces and almost all buces which are in full light all melted away. The buces in shadow are still a live.

Thanks for the tip. I will move them all into the shade and see how they do. I may get some fully grown plants to replace them for now. I am dosing a small amount and adding a little co2 but I don't want to go too mad with that until my solenoid comes. There are so many different types! I'm quickly falling for in love with them, I hope they recover.

yes maybe the superglue was a bit harsh for such small plants that have been grown in a very specialised environment.

Have to agree they prefer lower light, they grow well in my low light co2 injected 1ft cube tank, I too have had my fair amount melt before, I have found they like stable conditions, probably best not to add them when you first start up a tank
