Uwagumi 60L

Hi
Its not good to have Phosphate 0 as is required for plant growth.Im not familiar with the fertiliser U are using but will defo swap for a complete one having macros and micros in it.Adjust the phosphate level to arround 2ppm (allow couple of weeks time for the plants to adjust )and if that doesnt help reduce the light intensity a little to help the algae.Monte Carlo doesn't require lots of light to trive.
Also with CO2 addition is not wise to have siesta (split photoperiod ) as will cause fluctuations in CO2 and possibly staghorn and BBA in future

Hi Konsa,

Thanks for your reply - I will try a solid photo period, plus maybe up the weekly fert a little. I am currently using Columbo weekly fert at the stock dosage. The daily fert is Ferropol 24.

Could you tell me what Staghorn and BBA are?

What filter are you using

I use an Eden 511 (with integrated heater). It's over-rated for this size aquarium, so I have dropped it to below the tank to cut the flow rate a bit. So far so good, I like it's design and ease of use, plus not having the heater in the tank is a boon! I may also extend the spray bar so it's a better and more uniform flow from top to bottom.

Hi
BBA and staghorn are type if lagae often related to CO2 fluctuations and poor tank maintenance.
Here is a good algae article
http://www.theplantedtank.co.uk/algae.htm
When U have bright light and CO2 addition U speed up plant metabolism and growth rate.As the tank developes and the plants grow in there is more increased demmand for nutrients and if there is even one that is not present or not sufficient the plant growth will decline, will suffer browning and leaves loss and different algae will be able to overpower the plants.Thats why I suggested to revise your dosing and if possible to reduce the light intensity as comment on your Monte carlo browning.

Hi
Just checked the fertiliser U are using. It is just trace elements and some K.U will be lacking N and P.
The colombo has a pro version which is the complete fertiliser with N and P added.
Instead the ones U are using U can get the Colombo pro or Other complete one (TCN complete,The Aquascaper all in one,Tropica Specialised or mix your own ferts)U really need to provide all needed nutrients whatever brand U confident with.

Day 74,

Swapped to solid photo period as suggested.

The "browning" has subsided a lot. I upped the water changes to 50% weekly, and increased both daily and weekly ferts.

I'll stick to those ferts for now, and get some better when they run out.

I've also added the further 6 Ember Tetra, which makes a world of difference to the general look of the tank!
