Java fern, what to do with offshoots

See pic, in my 'scaped tank my java fern has offshoots on ends of leaves. Do I cut these off and propagate them or just leave them to grow on the top of each plant? If I leave them what will it look like?

Yep, I think they look messy too. But if you want more plants they will grow OK after you remove them. Otherwise (compost) bin them or give them away.
 
The old leave propagating like this.. In my experience always dies off anyway.. The longer you keep the youngster on that leaf the sooner they suck mommy leaf dry from mobil ferts, i guess. Till now i never had a propagating leaf survive for long.. No idea what others experience. :)
