Wondering if I should raise the lights a bit higher. Can't get CO2 any higher without danger to the fish
It's wise to adapt the lighting levels to the CO2 levels. It will slow down growth a bit, but should result in fewer algae.

11 days later. Getting a bit more BBA but otherwise seems pretty good. Raised the lights quite a lot (but have just lowered them.) Now doing water changes once a week and dosing once a week (just lazy). But am surprised at how well it's doing. Here's a quick shot from my phone.

Hadn't realised how sloooooowly java ferns grow, so the back is being taken over a bit by stem plants. And the middle is a jungle mess. It's going to need some careful trimming at some point quite soon.

Looking Lush! Some lucky cardinals there. I tried a black background for a while, it does make the colours pop out. Good growing T

Ho man, that ranunculus inundatus looks quite invasive! Had planned on adding some on my 60cm tank but after seeing that, I'll avoid it...too big!
Btw, nice growth and tank!
Cheers

Yes it really goes for it. I'm aiming for the messy look though.

Aqua Medic 1000 CO2 reactor with media removed. Seems to do the job just as well without the bioballs though is a bit noisier. Might add an inline venturi loop at some point if I can find a T piece that adapts 16/22 hose to 4mm CO2 pipe anywhere. Suggestions?

So you have a 16/22mm hose bad want to ad a t piece with dual 4mm or just one 4mm?

I did to connect co2 hose to a 16mm pipe by drilling a 4.5mm hole in the pipe, then I cut out the valve from an inner bicycle tube. Leave a couple of mm of the rubber this will seal the hole when you tighten the nut. The co2 hose fits perfectly on the valve.
You need to take out the upper/inner part of the valve... You probable want to do it on a 16mm tpiece or a 90 angle in order to get the valve in there

That's a nice trick. I think I'll use the aqua medic reducing t-piece though...

Quick update on growth. It's going really well!! Christmas tree is in front of the tank so a bit hard to take a proper photo. So here's a phone snap.

Needs a proper trim now. Taking out the powerhead didn't seem to make much difference.

Left the tank completely alone (apart from feeding) over Christmas. Have to say I'm really delighted with how it's gone - by far my best ever attempt. Everything is really healthy.

The difference on this one to my previous tanks:

- CO2 on all day and night, controlled to nearly yellow by PH controller
- Very erratic dosing - basically a big dose of EI salts at water change
- Higher initial planting - and a couple of species that grow fast
- Lower flow (!!) with no hydor
- A surface skimmer on the intake - really like it as gives very clear top and no film ever
- Low livestock (currently 10 tetras, 4 SAEs, a few amanos, 10 ottos)

Two full tank shots with cheap off camera flash and different backgrounds.

Hello, Happy New year to you and your loved ones.

I think maybe you could add some red plants for contrast? Repens or glandulosa?

Few more photos with the proper camera. Everything looking really healthy. Added 20 more neon tetra so it's looking better now...
