Could all be true, it's not easy to determine plants without the flowers. If you could get your hands on some local info on plants you could at least see wether they have been found in your area
( for instance here: http://www.scielo.br/scielo.php?script=sci_serial&pid=0102-3306&lng=en&nrm=iso)
On the other hand it would be nice to setup a tank with locally sourced plants and create something nice no matter hoew they are called:)
 
Hydrocotyl is quite a large cosmopolitan genus.. The tiny one has a waxy look to it, the 2 i know of that are small and come close are H. Novae Seelandia and the H. heteromeria and both actualy originate from the pacific region. But that says nothing nowadays. I live in Europe and can obtain both in the pond shop.
