Hey guys,

Was looking to make a DIY water changer for a planted nature scaped aquarium.

Would these two items work well for this?

https://www.allpondsolutions.co.uk/aquarium/equipment/pumps/2500lh-submersible-aquarium-pump/
and
https://www.allpondsolutions.co.uk/20mm/
or perhaps safer to use
https://www.aquariumgardens.co.uk/clear-aquarium-filter-tubing-hose-1622mm---per-meter-1825-p.asp

Cheers!

PS. Tank is 200 Litres. 100cm wide, 40 cm depth, 50 cm height. This solution would be too transfer water out of the tank into a waste drain and to extract water out of a bucket back into the tank. If anyone has any better solutions please let me know.

So based on that you would empty half the tank water in 2.4 minutes (do check my maths as I've not eaten yet today). That would give you about 14.4 seconds to refill the bucket. Can you fill you bucket to the 10 litre mark from your tap and let me know how long this takes?

I think your maths is right, and I've had my dinner :)
That pump has an adjustable flow rate, which is useful, although it's not obvious from the specs what the minimum is.

Head height will have an impact too, but it does sound a bit overkill for the job at hand... don’t forget it’s not good for the motors to run a pump at a restricted flow rate...
