Substrate Containment

I am looking for advice on substrate containment. I wish to plant in dedicated areas of the tank and wonder how this is best done. I have been told nylons/stockings can be filled and placed accordingly and then covered with gravel and planted above, has anyone tried this method?
My substrate is Red Sea Flora Base.

Kindest Regards: Peter

I've heard of the stocking method before, too but not tried it. Is this a new scape, from scratch or an existing one you're wanting to change?

I'd suggest dividing the substrate using something like card/plastic and add both substrates. Carefully remove the card and as long as they are similar levels, they should stay put. Take a look at the picture thread for George's TGM day. He used a length of card to do this (some pics on the thread).

Steve,

Thanks for the advice. This is a new build so I am seeking information before I start.

Regards: Peter
