It looks over 40 ppm
But that could be due to macro ferts?
Have a nice cup of tea, put your feet up :-)
You need to remineralise the ro with something. What ever you use will move the pH .
Ro is so soft that anything can effect its pH.
I bet your tap water is over 8, if you leave it to stand over night.
Home base stuff is good
Or use jeyes kleenoff.
Get one with no additives
Add ammonia, if no fish are present.
Any ferts will raise tds.
Full fertilisation will raise tds substantially
Plant growth, nutrient removal via water changes (dilution, as per lakes and rivers)
As for measuring hormones- I have no idea.
But the effects...
What about fish hormones?
Surely you don't want them hanging around in the water.
Depends which fish you want.
Soft water fish only thrive in soft water, so a reverse osmosis unit might be needed, although some parts of the...
Hanna all the way.
But there's some fakes out there.
You need at least an hour to acclimate fish.
The longer the better, just to be safe
Oh definitely caused by chlorine/ metals stressing the fish.
Some white spot meds don't work if dechlor is used....
No dechlorinator used by you at all for water changes?
Is this a mix up?
Water changes and q tank
Liquid co2 demands bigger water changes.
Weekly is better than fortnightly.
Daily is better than weekly.
At least 10% per week.
Its time for a cycling / new tank prep sticky.
well I know my solids aren't unobtanium or molybdenum.
Divvy tds by 18. Jobs a goodun.
that's all very well , buy some fish are much happier at low tds.
My boraras for example, will NOT DISPLAY above 180 tds ( ish)
So why would...
United utilities should give your postcode area a rough idea about your water quality.
All cheap test kits are pretty hit and miss. Paper test strips are terrible. You can measure this yourself by performing a few tests per day- the...
Ceg cracks me up. He's just so deadpan.
totally agree. Plus you get much more natural behaviour, such as courtship dancing, reproduction and a much happier longer life.
. . but any amount of co2 will not soften the water, it just compounds the issue. . Water courses in nature vary in ph throughout the day anyway
Absolutely not. . been there. . Softer water is what they need.
Test again just before gas on
Don't do it captain! Probably full of airborne nasties
Increases surface area, dry peat if compressed can resist 'wetting' the eheim stuff is useless.
If its in compressed pellet form, break it up before you use it.
MAke sure you get peat with no additives etc. Humax is great.
i know all about that argument, some kits are worse than others, but for cycling at least- they are more than worth the cost. stop listening to...
some people need a test kit, they do not have the luxury of experience, or whilst cycling a tank, for example.
if you want to test for ammonia, get ammonia test kit.
you need it for ammonia removal?
if you are setting up , i would buy the api master kit. Cheap and ok for the job. A drop checker is the default method of measuring co2 in a tank....
indeed, goes against everything i have experienced since 92' though. i suppose we 'could' do lots of things and get away with it.....
i turn my filters off for feeding, sometimes i go off and do something and the filtres are off a few hours, this is ok, but i would not risk more...
if you have all 8 fish in one tank, taking half of them out means you can also take half the filter media too. remember, the bacteria need food,...
they usually travel so fast that any absorbsion is minimal.
if your filter has sponges, you can cut them in half or to any shape you need, if they have balls or ceramics just take half out and put into...
ok, you could take half of the stuff from the filter that is cycled (your old tank) and put it in the new filter, then use the new filter media to...
i would put the nutafin cycle in the bin. basically , the fish produce waste, bacteria feed on the waste and reproduce inside your filter. using...
have a look at this http://www.seriouslyfish.com/species/ta ... albonubes/
i said that !
ok, the filter on the empty tank will uncycle without fish or ammonia. hope the wcmm are ok.
how did you cycle the tank?
.... take some of your filter media from the established tank and put it in your new tank filter, turn the temperature down to 20 degrees or so,...
get that ammonia treatment in pronto. Pal. Big water change first.
sounds to me like you have ruined the action of your substrate. What was shoddy about the eco complete? Do a water change every day until you are...
think i checked united utilities? Something like that. They should have at least a basic water parameter.
look at the utilities webby.
so the first butt is to allow the contaminants to precipitate out? Allowing the cleaner water to flow into butt 2?
have a look at the .... If its yellow let it mellow .... Thread on here. Should give you some info.
great info darrell.
i use peat moss to lower my tap water parameters. Works a dream.
what fish? Best not to alter your intank water ph. Do it out of the aquarium.
Separate names with a comma.
