Quick update! Lots of algae growth but also lots of plant growth. Still no co2 hooked up but I really like it so far. I've actually just chucked a lot of plant out there was so much growth! It's still far off what I want it to be, but it's slowly getting there. The afro moss is growing...

Filter change over, how long to run side by side?

Hi Everyone, I first set up my planted tank with an internal filter which has been fine for the last 3 months. I put an external thermo filter on the tank a week ago to increase flow/ improve the look of the tank. How long until I can remove the internal filter? There's no hurry but it does...

    Silly question about mixing equipment

Yes in theory but I had a message from CO2 Supermarket to say I shouldn't be mixing equipment from different suppliers (in this case CO2 Art) despite the fittings being the same and that it was the source of all my woes! I beg to differ, but hey ho. It would seem lilirose has had similar advice.

    Silly question about mixing equipment

I've recently had a similar issue with them becoming rude despite a very obviously defective item! I'll detail it in a longer post at some point. I hope you get it resolved but I've nothing helpful to add I'm afraid.

It's slowly filling in and I've added 10 Alder cones to stain the water for the 16 green neons which I recieved today. They look happy already, exploring the tank. The 10 Harlequins initially looked annoyed at having to share their tank but everyone seems happy now! I've still been having huge...

    Disposable Gas Bottle, Cheap alternative?

Ah that sounds promising. It was 10 years ago that i had the issue with finding an adapter (there weren't any! ) Please can you post your solution when you have it? I'm interested.

    Disposable Gas Bottle, Cheap alternative?

No, I did the same as you, had a nano regulator and looked and any way I could to get larger (and cheaper!) bottles to fit. I ended up drawing a blank and bought a reg to fit disposable bottles instead.

The brief and incomplete future of aquascaping

It's closer to home than that I'm afraid. My Dad for one and my family is about as boring working class white British as you could imagine! I do think the ratio of males to females is important to those young aquascapers coming into the hobby as I think it will put off talented females from...

The brief and incomplete future of aquascaping

I'm not sure Tim. I find UKAPS to be a very respectful and friendly forum and far less prone to the male posturing that I've seen in the cycling forums that I also frequent. I think carry on as you are and more women will join hopefully!

No I'm afraid not Graham. The disposable bottles above are a M10x1 thread.

  14. oatfish

The brief and incomplete future of aquascaping

I agree with above (I'm female too). I'm not put off by the seemingly male domination of UKAPS but I expect some are. I have automatically assumed to be male in PMs several times which I find a bit irritating but I'm encouraged by the number of female friends who want to know about by new...

Thanks! Hitched up the co2 the other night only to find the adapter was leaking. A replacement is on it's way. Everything seems ok in the tank, some algae but nothing too bad. I've introduced some blue cherry shrimp who seem happy mooching around. I'm looking forward to setting the lights up...

Hi Everyone! After a 10 year break from the hobby I've bought a cheap tank and I'm back in the game. I didn't want to leave the hobby but I was moving around a lot for work and the addition of 2 kids (now 3 years and 9 months) made it seem impossible. I'd love to have gone all in on a rimless...

    Sulawesi Cardinal Shrimp

Yes, it was looking promising what with a berried female etc. I kept checking the water parameters and even when I came back from hols (only away 5 days) the parameters seemed to be normal (for Sulawesi anyway!) and the temp at it's usual 28 deg C so I really have no idea. That led to my...

    Sulawesi Cardinal Shrimp

Just come back from hols to find my final 4 dead :( Very sad. I have no idea, but something clearly was not right for them. The tended to die off in pairs. I actually think my tank was too small and the fluctuations were too much for them despite the tank being in a suitable spot (no...

Safe Fish For CRS And Shrimplets

I have cherrys and CRS in a tank with Harlequins, neons and Emperor tetras (kerri) and have no problems. They will eat the very small shrimplets given a chance but totally ignore the teenage/adult shrimps. If I clean out the filter and chuck any shrimplets back in the open water of the tank...

    Sulawesi Cardinal Shrimp

Yeah! They are not as prolific as normal snails though, typical. The two shrimp deaths, one was an unknown cause but the other developed a lump (not fungal or bacterial from what I could tell) and just didn't shed properly and I found it dead  Fingers crossed for the remaining

Update: No shrimp babies yet, but just found 2 baby Sulawesi snails in the tank, they are super cute but kind of large - they weren't obvious 5 days ago when I did the last water change! CO2 reactor issues

Ah ok, thanks, my filter is rated at 1400lph (although I am aware it is probably half this, it's on a 200l tank). I can't really afford to upgrade the filter, I have an internal also to provide more flow (total "manufacturer rated turnover" is 1400 + 800 = 2200lph) It's a home made jobby, my...

    CO2 reactor issues

Hi, I had this question in my Journal but I tihnk it would be better to ask it here: At the moment I have an external CO2 reactor but it tends to fill about 1/4 with CO2 which then bubbles in big bubbles out through the filter outflow! I have it on the inflow pipe so it also rattles through the...

No, the fish completly ignore the shrimp although the shrimp seem to annoy the fish, esp. the plecs, by riding around on their backs.
