Thanks Shrimpy, Chris Lukhaup is also doing another magazine called Freshwater Shrimps gone wild which will be released at the end of the year. I would have thought that some of our shrimp sponsors would have sold this magazine. Thanks for the update really looking forward to seeing this whens...
While I was adding the background to the tank I noticed the Pogostemon erectus's root system which is massive, then at closer inspection I noticed that its also growing on top of the sand creeping down to the middle. Would trimming the roots cause much damage to the plant if they get to far to...
So I better update been ages. Since my last update we have moved house and it needed some work done to it so the tank was neglected for a week or so. But here goes, since I wasn't doing regular maintenance I got some BBA but I started dosing 30ML of Glut which killed it right of.I added 12...
I've started dosing Glutaraldehyde, following Alastairs
dose 1ml per 10 gal and on water change day dose 5ml per 10 gal rule.
Tank is 19.79 UKG so will be dosing 2ml, would it be dangerous to dose 2.5ml
Nice little fish, I have something similar Axelrodia riisei they have a nice schooling behaviour. One fish I would suggest is the Jelly Bean tetra. I had these many years ago and been wanting the ever since for my planted tank. I would recommend them if you can get them.
Stuff from Germany is cheaper. I saw a hard to get species in my LFS it was quite dear. I showed the member of staff the species on a German shops website and it was cheaper for me to get two shipped from Germany. I think the UK retail market may need to catch up.
Just an update people I downloaded the Tropica app on my wifes iPad anybody used it? I have found it quite good sorta gives you a to do list. I have found that it is helped me in these early stages and would recommend it to any less experienced members like myself.
I'm still waiting on the...
i love reading the journals, I have learned a lot from the members here them being our big guns or the less experienced. Learned what to do and what not to do. I have kept fish for about 20 years and kept many species but not much in the way of plants and until Joined here I thought the only...
The Elassoma evergladei are a coldwater species so I think the tap water should be fine, they like it about 20°C. I kept them years ago and they are such a cracking little fish. They can be a bit tricky to feed but if you get a micro worm or grindal worm culture they should alright.
I have removed The air pump completely now.
Need advice on a CO2 system I don't have the cash at the moment to go for a pressurized system are there any others on the market which are fairly good?
Thanks again guys.
Thanks Ceg. That's just an air pump I had some surface scum so I used it for disturbance. I see your point with the spray bar which is no great deal to shift, water change day tomorrow so I can shift it then.
I currently don't have a dosing regime was thinking about trying EI. Also was gonna...
Got my plants yesterday with no complications. The Vallis tiger wasn't in stock so they added nana instead. Got a few shots for you guys.
The Rotala has had a couple of trims trying to get it bushy.
I think a lot of these plants were grown emersed. The Crypt and Hydrocotyle looked a bit...
Hi George great read so far 13 pages and still a dry tank, gonna be a long journal. I take the yoghurt method can only be used on a dry start? I suppose it beats tying the stuff down with thread or fishing line.
Been a while since I posted here, Due to lack of funds I have had to wait to get my plants, which should be here in the next couple days :). I emailed APS about the missing parts and they sent me out some without complaint.
I have had the tank running for a while now and put some plants in to...
Hi guys here is link to Hughs new place. Riverscape Aquarium . Think we are all screwed now for decent fish, but Discovery in Dundee had some nice stuff last time I visited but I was put off by the duck weed in the tanks.
I used to be a member there and its a excellent club! lots of keepers...
Thanks DTL I will get onto them about those brackects. I have found that the customer service which I have received from them has been absolutely excellent.
I have some totals in another tank which I can put in the tank at the moment.
Hi guys Thought I would start a new journal since I got a nice tank for Christmas. The tank is an All Pond Solutions 90 litre.
Note to people looking at getting one of these put the filter in the cabinet before you place the tank as it doesn't fit through two doors, luckily the tank was empty...
Lol I have had this happen to me before. I found one of my Amanos at the front door which was down a set of stairs. I think it must have been about the equivalent of about a mile in shrimp size. My giant African filter shrimp is prone to climbing the pipes and wires in the tank and have also...
Hi folks i'm due to get my new tank shortly which is this
Open Top Cabinet Fish Tank Aquarium - 77 Litres - 60cm 2ft - Three Colours - All Pond Solutions
It comes with a 1000 lph filter, I have the APS 2000 lph filter and im wondering if this would be too strong for the tank? The substrate...
Hi LD I've just changed my profile pic via PhotoShop and made it a GIF for transparency but the forum doesn't support it,is this something that will be getting looked at in the future? As I understand its still early days in the forum.
Hi looking to get two species of shrimp for my tank. They won't interbreed as they are not related. The first is caridina and the second is Macrobrachium kulsiense. These are one of the smaller clawed shrimp so im wondering if these guys would predate the caridina?
Any thoughts guys?
Hi guys I got a couple of pots of HC from my local GC. Its tropica stuff so am right to believe that it has been grown emersed? The reason I ask this is that I have experienced some melt but there are new shoots is this normal? It is growing though. I dose 5ml LC daily but no CO2. The tank is...
Hi guys got a question about a carpet that I would like to attempt to grow. Looking for a sturdy plant that will carpet. The reason im asking is I have African Filter Shrimp who is quite cumbersome when walking and I think that he would rip up the likes of HC. Has anyone got any tips or suggestions?
The carbonated water has got me interested in trying it. But got a question about. Does it get put in while its fizzy or do you wait for it to go flat? Sorry for the if this sounds noobish just want to check to make sure I do it properly.
I have the 2000lph model. I found that the uplift was quite loud and wasn't a fan of the surface skimmer, what I did removed it and shoved the uplift into the hose which eliminated the noise. I think they are good filters but the plastic connections are quite cheap think that was causing the noise.
Hi guys im looking for a algae eating snail which can reproduce in freshwater. I had Nerite snails which eventually got munched by my assassin snail. They did a great job but left eggs everywhere. So you can see why I would like ones which hatch in freshwater so I can re-home the young
I know it belongs to my wife so im gonna try and talk her round to re-homing it. I will put some shots up soon. I'm looking to add more corries of the same species and something else I was thinking about diamond tetras what do you guys think?
Here's a wee video of my tank in the living room.
The tank contains 6 Geophagus Suirinamensis,4 Cory Suirinamensis,2 Cory Arcuatus, 24 Penguin Tetras, 1 Dull Eyed Panaque, 3 Cherry Barbs(...
I haven't yet. It was a tight squeeze getting the thing in the cabinet, think I may have to cut a hole in the base. I am also thinking of reducing the length of the spray bar and putting it along the width of the tank.
Hi I noticed today that one of my female Ottos is full of eggs. I have five Ottos in total within the tank. I have read various articles on the web about breeding them but info is quite thin. I just thought I would ask on here if any of you guys have had success breeding them as most of us keep...
Just a quick update guys. I showed the pic at my lfs and they were very helpful and it is indeed a flower/fruit. I have observed over the past few days and it seems that it has released 6 or so tiny plants into the water. Since then it has withered and I have removed it from the tank.
I have kept them with Nerites before. They got on well for a while the Nerite fell and landed on its back then the assassin snail saw this as lunch. I would be careful if your gonna house them together.
Thanks guys the moss is going well apart from the sticky up bit of the wood, it has turned brown but there is some small green bits left. I think that they must be near the clumps at the bottom and getting moisture that way. Have to say that im pleased with this, its my first time at trying...
The rummy noses might, but it depends what hiding places you have in the tank for the shrimps mosses, caves etc. Cherries are a good introduction to shrimps they are fairly undemanding( 1st species I kept).
The shell in the tank was probably a female. Once a female who has eggs in her and is...
Getting a new tank soon and I'm going for a South American setup. I have a rough idea of what plants I want to put in. But I have a large piece of wood which I'm going to use but I don't know if there is a plant that I can grow attached to wood. As always help would be great.
Re: Emersed Tank new pics
As you can see in my last post I have added a bit wood with some Xmas moss on it. Since then I have added a lot more to it and tied it to the wood. But the question I have is how do I keep it from drying out? Currently I dip it in the tank every second day to keep it...
Was at outsideinside at the weekend and picked up some new plants for myself.
Cryptocoryne x willisii
Cryptocoryne wendtii "tropica" also in front of that is a Nymphaea rubra
I ripped out all of the Lilaeopsis brasiliensis and put it in my emersed setup.
