Cheers andy, not really what I wanted to hear though! Think I'll quarintine fish in future! There's not a massive whitespot problem just a few bits in one or two fish.

    Dead shrimp

Cheers PM. Didnt lose any shrimp yesterday, whipped the two struggeling ones out and put them in the nano, which has yet to be stocked. recovered in a few hours. I think it is my white spot treatment and coupled with the unwashed plants as suggested Neil it pused it over the edge. Need to...

    Dead shrimp

I got 5 more amanos. Some of the corys started showing a bit of whitespot so I dosed the meds again. Two shrimp are now on their backs and kick like mad. The rest seem fine. They didn't do that the first time I put the treatment in. I guess that it must have copper or something in it!

I didn't run carbon. I'll try and get some tomorrow and keep up the water changes. I'm a bit gutted at such a school boy error!

    Dead shrimp

Got some new plants today, couple of tropica plants and some leaded java fern. All from local fish shop. Went home quick rinse and popped then in the tank for later. Came home a few hrs later and 7 dead amanos and 4 dead rummys. Whipped the plants out and did a 50% change. All levels seem...

How to re-scape a hi-tech tank, once it's past its best

Depends how long it will take to rescape? I'm going to be doing something very similar in the next week or so. I figured the fish would be okay in a big flexi bucket and as long as the water was saved they could be moved back across? I've got a spare corner tank so worst comes they could bunk...

    Not a great start...

advice on setting up my new tank?

A few things that I've been told since I joined this community. Have you considered using akadama as a substrate? Used by amano in the early days, cheap and can pull nutrients from the water column for the roots. The dd kit I considered but was advised, rightly, that it would be too small for...

    Jewellers rouge to remove scratches?

I did a similer job on my well scuffed oskaka 260l. Bottom line was it was too large an area to buff away completly but I did manage to smooth it enough so that it isn't as noticable and I cam live with it for the time being. I pit a post up somewhere about it with pictures.

    Tap safe and water changes

I live in north Ayrshire so I would expect the water to be relatively decent, soft etc. I tried to look up the water boards website but it didn't seem to be mac compatable! I've been using interpet pond stuff, 15 for 100liters or so. I don't want to set my filter back any as it's just starting...

    Tap safe and water changes

I've recently, partially, planted my tank with more plants on the way. I have been doing 50% water changes the last few days. Should I be using tapsafe(or equivilent) during these changes? In a 260l tank this getting pretty expensive!

    Removing scratches from glass.

Cheers Garuf, i though I was fighting a losing battle with this as I was doing it but I think I've done enough so that at least my heart doesn't sink every time I look at the tank.

    Removing scratches from glass.

Well not a revelation but the scratches on the tank are now much less apparent. They are still there however have been smoothed (i think) so that they don't seem to catch the light as much. All in all I'm pretty happy. I think if i was to put in 20+ hours you could pretty much get rid of them...

    Removing scratches from glass.

I've gave the tank a good going over for 3-4 hours but i'm not sure how much difference it will have made. I'll neeed to get it full of water and the lights on to see if theres any improvement. there are still some visable scratches and I reckon that i have to large an area to polish out to see...

Clean marine tank for planted use

Kosh, I gave the tank a good scrub with boling water with White vinagar in it. There were small patched, I mean really small, of that pink stuff that was a bugger to get off. I used a stanly blade to scrape it of the glass and scrubbed what was left.

Clean marine tank for planted use

I am soon to get my 260L tank, second hand. This tank will have been previously and recently used for a marine setup. What cleaning of the tank will I have to do to get it ready for planting? Will a good scrub with tap water do the job? Thanks
