Re-scape or give up, looking for general advice.

I would say my recent filter is mature by now, im guessing running it in a tropical straight to coldwater will be safe?, and will it be ok to put the mountain minnows straight in when the new setup is done?
  3. DanMac

Re-scape or give up, looking for general advice.

Cheers for the link andy, thats roughly what i want but im going to go for a more 'iwagumi' look and have a big main stone with a few smaller ones and maybe some tiny pebbles on the outside, moss inbetween the stones ect.
  4. DanMac

Re-scape or give up, looking for general advice.

Oh i thought it was mainly down to low flow in certain areas, Either way the main problem is that its growing on my hair grass and it seems pointless keeping it unless it looks pristine , it doesnt look as bad on rocks imo.

Re-scape or give up, looking for general advice.

Lol tim i'm the same I dont like to give up on things and i have spent way too much time and money just to throw it all away. bba is the worst algae i have encountered and even if it does grow on smooth boulder like rocks it would be much easier to remove imo. I also switched to tropical...

Re-scape or give up, looking for general advice.

I forgot to add that my filter is still good enough to filtrate and add decent movement, so im assuming with smooth rock and moss only i should get away with it..

Re-scape or give up, looking for general advice.

I have had my first ever/current tank for nearly a year now and i am thinking of doing a rescape, My main reason is due to BBA taking over my hair grass and yamaya stone (along its straight edges) because my filter is not running as strong it should be (its my second jbl and i refuse to buy...

    External heater question

Best way to prime a new external filter?

Cheers mate, this has restored faith in my tank,i knew the flow would be better but not by this much:)
  14. DanMac

Best way to prime a new external filter?

WOW now thats what im talking about!. The flow of this is incredible, to the point where i think i may need to slow it down a little,if i were to do that should i close both of the levers slightly?, do they have to be at a perfectly even point?
  15. DanMac

Best way to prime a new external filter?

Im good to go then, Cheers for the quick response guys, I cant wait to have good water flow again:)
  16. DanMac

Best way to prime a new external filter?

So i should sqeeze the sponges into the actual tank when its all running, rather then into the filter? and keep both of the levers open when priming?

Best way to prime a new external filter?

Hi guys i should be getting a new jbl e700 in a few hours to replace my current e700 (my current one doesnt run properly due to a stupid mistake i made when i first got it) Whats the best way to get it started?, should i fill it up with water manually and then turn it on, or should i use the...

Going large (ish) with a 60P

Very nice scape, I was also going to ask about your light lol, turns out there is a 60cm one which should fit my tank, i have no idea about led lighting and was wondering how powerful it is compared to t5 bulbs?. I use a single 24w t5 bulb for 10 hours a day and was wondering how the 60cm with...

    Water Change...I am confused!

I dont mean to hijack this thread but i am only asking since it seems that your problem has been resolved. My tank is low tech and lightly planted with a fine gravel substrate. the only dosing i do is 1ml easy carbo and 1ml TNC complete daily, (54 liter tank, single 24w light 10 hours a day)...

    Fantastic free ride video

The whole video was sick, but I have to say the front flips onto the exercise ball were my favorite (and the barrel roll flair thing onto the ball) ,Never seen that done before and it looks hilarious haha. also when he rides and hops from one track to the other is ridiculous accuracy. I have...

    Over stocked?

Sounds good, if i end up getting rid of the blue tetras i'll replace them with 6 embers and have 12 in total then.
  30. DanMac

    Over stocked?

Yeah i have always said that i wanted 2 small species max and wanted a low number of fish since my tank is an aquascape, the blue tetras are quite active and will get bigger so im most likely going to replace the 6 of them with 4 more embers. My embers do move around the tank but stay at one...
  31. DanMac

    Over stocked?

Cheers for all the responses, I think i may get rid of the blue tetras soonish, might replace them with four more ember tetras and another shrimp. Sound like a good idea to everyone?
  32. DanMac

    Over stocked?

Arghhh now i dont know what to do lol, My tank is pretty bare so they have a decent amount of space to move around, I really like these blue tetras and would love to keep them, if they get quite a bit bigger then i will take them back but surely i can leave them for now atleast?.
  33. DanMac

    Over stocked?

Yeah they are quite fast and thats the reason i asked on here, i did a bit of research on them yesterday and one website said they should be in a tank thats atleast 3 foot long but im guessing my 2 foot long tank will be ok. I also do a 30-40% water change every week, my tank is lightly planted...

OK guys I have now been dosing TNC complete for nearly a week now along with easy carbo. I dose each 1 mil per day, I have been dosing between 1-2 hours before lights on , I also use small syringes to dose both just below the surface near the outflow. I just want to check that I am doing...

    Open tanks...advantages and disadvantages.

I have had my open tank for 3 months so i cant really comment on changes in weather. the only downside I can see is that I lose some water everyday, slightly annoying as i like mine filled within centimeters of the top. as a pure guess i would say I lose around 1 liter a day from my 54 liter tank.

200w heater safe in 54 liter tank?

as dazzer said i only need a 50w for my tank so going by that wouldnt my current 100w kill them all anyway if it failed? if thats the case I might aswell get the 200w external, my internal heater is a cheap chinese one so that is more likely to fail than a £40+ external surely?
  80. DanMac

200w heater safe in 54 liter tank?

I would prefer a lower watt but so far the lowest on an external I have seen is 200, surely there are others out there who have an overpowered external for there small tanks? unless there is such a thing as a 50-100 watt external that is..
  81. DanMac

200w heater safe in 54 liter tank?
