Yeah I was thinking about not having the centre brace however I think I like the idea of having it there even if I'm able to take it out when needed to get the sump out. Not that I'll have to do that very often I suppose.
The tank is drilled.

That sounds like a plan. I was thinking about using pocket holes to assemble the cabinet anyway so could probably just not glue the divider.
I was also thinking I might use offcuts to put a brace width ways across the middle to prevent bowing.

A sump will evaporate a fair bit if open but mine as a condensation cover on top so evaporation is minimal. speaking of evaporation however one of the things I like about the sump is that it keeps the water level in the main tank consistent as the level in the sump drops not the tank.

It's not one I've built (yet) it's a kitchen cabinet I want to copy. I'm hoping to be able to use a sump as that's what I've been using with some success for the last couple of years. My tank is a marine tank I've converted to fresh water.

I need a new cabinet for my tank. I've been looking at buying one but they are so expensive and most aren't the best quality. I've been thinking about giving DIY a go.
Looking online I like the look of Birch plywood cabinets with a natural finish and think I'll go down this road as it will fit...
Funnily enough. I'm looking for a new one to replace one that was damaged due to moisture. I got a signature 900 set second hand and converted it to fresh water. The cabinet had some moisture damage on the front. Structural it's fine but it doesn't look very nice. Would the aquascaper range fit...
Sorry to revive such an old thread but I was just wondering are these able to grow so well above water at normal UK humidity. Do they need to be sprayed often?

Thanks. I have the same tank as you and the light in my sump died a few days ago so I need to get a cheap replacement before the plants die.

They do look good. Do you know if they are height adjustable? I'd like to be able to raise or lower the fixture depending on what plants I end up with. I was also thinking about using a few riparium planters so would want the lights to be above the emersed plants.
I was looking at this one but...
I've just set up my first open top aquarium. It's 90cm long. I would like to suspend my lights using a hanging bracket but not sure what one to go for. I like the ones that you can attach to your aquarium cabinet rather than the wall as I live in a rented flat. What ones are you guys using? Or...
I tried the mod yesterday. It works very well. There is no gurgling at all now. In fact now I've started to notice how loud the return pump is. I have a TMC V2 1500 pump.

Looks amazing. Good news on the free plants. I'm just setting mine up today and testing out the return pump etc. How are you finding the nose from drain? Mines is gurgling quite a lot at the moment

I've just bought the exact same tank and plan to do more or less the same as you. I've never used a sump before can you give me some more info on how you have yours set up?

Thanks for the response. I bit the bullet and went for the TMC. Now begins the adventure of learning how to set up a freshwater sump [emoji5]️

I'm torn between 2 tanks at the moment. One is a juwel lido 200 only 100l less then the Rio but obviously it's square so less swimming length etc. The other is a TMC Signature 900 set. I know it's a marine tank and I plan to use it for tropical planted but I'm interested to give a sump a go in...
The dead spot is more annoying than anything else. I'm a bit of a perfectionist. I'm not too bothered about fast growth as long as my tank looks healthy. I've only got easy and medium plants because of my fairy low light.
Wow that filter looks almost empty compared to mine. I'll take some...
Thanks for the reply. It's a low tech tank with capped dirt substrate. It's low light as I only have 2 t8 tubes. I was toying with the idea of trying co2 as I have an FE and reg etc from an old setup but not sure if there's a point. It is heavily planted so that might be cutting down the flow...
I'm looking to improve the flow in my tank but need some advice on the best way to do this. I have a Rio 300 tank.
At the moment I'm using a tetratech ex1200 plus filter with the spraybar on the right hand of the tank spraying along the length of the tank. The intake is at the same side as the...
I was a bit worried that the CO2 wouldn't mix throughout the whole tank but it seems to mix quite well. I put the drop checker on the side with no diffuser and it is lime green.
It would probably be an issue in a larger tank but mine is not that long
I've positioned the spraybars both on the rear spraying towards the front. Hopefuly the flow won't be too strong with both the filters running.
Thanks
Steve
Hi
I've been using a Fluval 205 in my 90L tank for well over a year. I recently picked up an other 205 for £8 the owner sold it as leaking, but it just needed a new rubber seal. I was going to add it as a second filter in the 90L at least for a while to let the new media in the filter mature...
I have a 205 (which is one model smaller than the 305) on my tank and found it to be pretty good. It's not the most up to date but works well and is almost silent. In fact I just bought another one as it was going for a bargain price. Seller says it leaks but sounds like it just needs a new...
Yeah the spraybar might help. I can't find the attachment at the moment but I'm going to hunt it out later. The tank is square so front back or sides will work. Other thing I was thinking about trying was to have the spraybar going straight down into the tank

I have a 25l fluval Chi tank. Don't have the original filter and light that came with the tank so I'm going to use my Eden 501. When I set it up last night the filter doesn't seem to create much flow at the bottom of the tank. Is there a technique for achieving good flow in a tank this shape...
Thanks for the replies. Out off all the suggestions it looks most like stringy moss but still not convinced.
I was hoping to use it for a moss wall but not sure it will work.

Hi
I recently swapped some plant cuttings for a couple of handfuls of moss. The person I got it from isn't sire what kind it is. Can any one identify it?

Shows how much of a novice I am. I never even considered white when setting up my tank. I can see myself trying to remove some black paint in the not too distant future lol
I'm thinking I will go with the eheim installation kit but I do like the clean lines of the stock eheim pipes. If I can get a cheap secondhand set in the future I think I'll have a go with the black paint or heat shrink.
Thanks
Steve
Hi
I ended up buying a boyu ef-05 from eBay. I couldn't resist as it was cheap. So far I'm very impressed. It was easy to set up and runs pretty quiet. The build quality isn't the best but that's to be expected for the price. The hoses were a little bit stiff AMS and hard to position behind the...
Hi
I'm using a fluval 206 external on my tank. I got it second hand and the Pipes have seen better days. I'd like to replace them with something a bit better looking. I would like to use ones similar to these eheim ones
EHEIM 7272210 - 12mm INTAKE PIPE AQUARIUM FILTER | eBay but in black so...
Your riparium looks great. I'd love to set up a riparium of my own. The only spare tank I have right now is an old 18" x 10" x 10" do you think this is too small?
Thanks
Steve
Thanks again. I'm looking at all the suggestions now. I'll definitely get the CO2 kit then see about upgrading the lights. I wonder how hard it will be to take the lighting unit apart and swapping the starter for a T5. Something to look at for the future. Now I need to start reading up on CO2...
Thanks guys. After reading your recommendations I think I'll buy some non CO2 friendly plants and move some of my java fern from my shrimp tank into the roma. I'll let these grow on my bogwood and then in a month or 2 I'll add CO2 then a few more plants. Then later when I have some spare cash...
Hi
I have recently purchased a fluval roma 90. I'm using a fluval 206 filter with the tank but the pipes don't fit the hood properly. I have seen that some people have cut out their hoods to fit but I was wondering if anyone has come up with a better solution. Are there any other brands of pipes...
Hi
Thanks again for all the replies. I do realise that my choice would be very limited without CO2 and with low lighting. I don't mind if my plants are extremely slow growing as long as they survive. Would adding DIY CO2 be better than using liquid carbon? If I was to use that instead of liquid...
Thanks. I'll bear that in mind. Are there any plants that would form a carpet in my tank or is the lighting not bright enough? Also I probably should have said that substrate I'm using. I have tropica complete covered with moler clay in the areas I'm going to plant and I have an area of sand...
Thanks for the reply. I'm looking at the tropica website just now. When I've chosen my plants would I be best planting them so that my tank is heavily planted from the start or should I plant fewer plants and let them spread out naturally over time?
Thanks
Steve
Hi
I'm currently trying to set up my new aquarium. It's a fluval roma 90. I have the lights that came with the tank (2 x 15 watt T8 I think) and I'm using a fluval 206 filter. I've never kept plants before other than java fern so I really don't know what to get. I know my lighting isn't the...
thanks for the quick reply. I thought that might happen but I don't mind them mixing eventually. It's either that or I forget about the sand. What do you guys use to keep sand and other substrates separate?
Thanks
Steve
Hi
I'm in the process of setting up my first planted tank. I have a fluval Roma 90. I got it from a friend who had it set up with horrible multicoloured gravel. I want something a bit more natural. I thought I'd give moler clay a try so I bought some tesco cat litter. I've washed it and put it...
I just wanted to say hi. I found this site while i was looking for ideas on how to aquascape my Roma 90 tank. I've never kept a planted tank before so I hope you guys don't mind me asking loads of questions.
Thanks
Steve
