    Preparing Driftwood

Well its been soaking with the occasional turn in peroxide laced water which started as boiling from the pan since Sunday ready for tomorrows start on the re-scape, so should be good to go by now.

    Two Islands

I have to admit I may have to steal the wood arch/bridge idea. Beautiful looking scape.

    Planted Corn Snake Vivarium

Another thing to consider is that snakes will poo on just about anything so rot can set in easily.

    Hello from Sunny Shropshire

I think all men do this. Which is surprising given your average ladies clothing budget. Probably because our purchases tend to be large one off's where as theirs are little but often.

Another First Attempt at a planted tank

Its a great start, remember all tanks look a bit sparse until the plants get chance to fill out. Excellent layout for your first try.

    Which one to select

Not at all, in my 65 litre tank I use an extremely fine white silica sand which when dry is like flour, and I've never had any issues with it. Some dust may get kicked up early on but it should settle down without any issues after a day or so. Your plants should also help in preventing any...

    Hello from Sunny Shropshire

To get the missus into it, do what I do let her make as many "decisions" as you can. Mine went from hating the idea of fish to tolerating/liking my hobby. Welcome to UKAPS!

    Which one to select

Another vote for the small grain, it adds a nice texture without looking too rough.

    Building Hills

I want to build a pair of hills in my aquarium and have looked at what a few other people have done/suggested. The idea I have had is as a base to use a few rocks or gravel in old tights, soil on top, and capped with sand. I thought this would be the best way to avoid anaerobic pockets and would...

    NatureBoy's "Back Before TeaTime"...

I love the wild look of this tank. Absolutely stunning

    65 Litre "reclaim" budget tank

I've had a rethink of what I plan to do with this one, and have a good idea of the direction I want to go but it will take a bit more planning and designing. In the mean time Im going to work on a couple of nano's that I've got spare bits for.

    Unusual rock

Its definitely iron stone. I grew up in Eston playing in the hills that were formerly iron mines and saw a LOT of this stuff.

Clear spray enamel safe in aquarium?

I think we have some epoxy in so could try that out. Thank you!

Clear spray enamel safe in aquarium?

Just had a minor brain wave, probably a stupid idea but thought I would see what the general consensus was on an idea. I want to make a "door" in my aquarium back wall out of milliput which I know is fine for aquarium use. I wanted to paint it with acrylic since its far easier to work with to...

    Questions for my upcoming re-scape

That's great help on its own, so thank you. I will look into recipes for the loaches, never thought to need to supplement the kuhli loaches as they usually chomp down quite merrily on any flakes that get left or lost in the hardscape.

    Questions for my upcoming re-scape

My wife is finally going back to work (she's a lecturer) on Tuesday so I get to finally do the re-scape that I have been planning. I have a nice big 50 litre container I can move the fish into while I'm working. I can move the filter and heater there any syphon off the tank water in. The filter...

    65 Litre "reclaim" budget tank

The second was the one I allowed to grow in. Ive already shifted the magnet and thermometer. At the time the Wisteria grew to cover the filter and heater really well but unfortunately they were the first to die back.

Stowaway Snails - Good or Bad?

If it helps I got a yo-yo/Pakistani loach to try and control my snail numbers as I wanted a few on the clean up crew but had thousands of the buggers. I now have none what so ever. Every now and then I will drop a dozen or so in from my shrimp tank and they rarely last more than an hour.

    65 Litre "reclaim" budget tank

I started my tank about 2 years ago after my son (18 months old at the time) was fascinated by fish. I went planted straight away as I've always loved nature and since I live in a first floor flat I cant have a garden. It went through a few layouts and plantings before I settled on one I wanted...

    Preparing Driftwood

Hi guys, I managed to score some great driftwood at the beach yesterday after some stormy weather. I don't have a container large enough to fully soak/boil some of it so was wondering if power steaming would work or not? If not has anyone got any suggestions? the bath is out of the question...

    Kuhli loaches.

I use sand and they do dig a little but not much, in large gravel I have seen them slip down to get to the goodies at the bottom though. Mostly for me they just get into the rock work and nooks .

    Kuhli loaches.

They are bottom feeders who thanks to their size and shape can get into the hard to reach areas to keep the substrate clean.

Glad you found them, I know what its like to track down a tricky fish

    Kuhli loaches.

If it helps my local maidenhead almost always has them and dirt cheap too. I picked up 6 for £5 a few months ago

Where to buy in the North East.

Other than Maidenhead in Stockton garden centre there is: Pet Mania Cant post the website yet. Portrack Lane Great range of fish (tropical, marine, cold) and plants, also have axolotls and other amphibians from time to time, staff are a mixed bag, some know loads while others stare blankly...

    Hello from Teeside

Thought I should register and say hello since I will likely be asking for advice sooner than later! Ive had a planted tank for just over a year which at its prime looked great but unfortunately a duckweed infestation while I was away for a month killed all but a solitary crypt. Im about to try...
