    Surprise find

I have been having a post Christmas turn out of some cupboards and while checking through some of the boxes I found some items I recieved after joining the Nature Aquarium Club in the later 90's. A keyring with a membership number on the reverse and an invite to the first aquatic plant layout...

    Cleaning rock

I picked up an electric toothbrush just for tank maintenance use, just a cheap oral b job a pack of 10 replacement heads was about £10 and last for ages, makes cleaning rocks in situ in the tanks much easier.

    Cleaning rock

I would be tempted to soak it in water for a couple of days and then use an electric toothbrush to scrub the algae off the stones, I have done this a couple times with good results.

Very nice, I am sure you will enjoy using them.

    Recommended pincettes?

I bought a pair of ADA pinsets 16 years ago and since then I have purchased quite a few sets from other manufacturers but nothing comes close to the feeling of control and accuracy you get from using the ADA ones, you can hold very delicate plants without damage, they may cost more but they work...

    eheim - pah!

I had a simialr problem with one of my pro filters reciently all it took to fix was a new seal for the pump unit and its fine again. the old seal was 3/4 the thickness of the new one so they crush a fair bit over time.

    Recommend Me a CO2 System

because your not playing with animal life when welding, tolerances are much tighter, my local hydroponics supply shop sell very cheap regulators that I would not touch as their accuracy is rubbish.

    Recommend Me a CO2 System

it depends on the size of the tank I'm using it on. on my 4' tank I get about 3-4 months use at 30ppm using an aquamedic 1000 inline reactor, on my 2' tank i get about the same running an ada pollenglass 24/7 but on my 27L cube I get nearly a year using a cheapo glass diffuser. I have used that...

    Recommend Me a CO2 System

that set uses the same bottles as the jbl ones, often I get jbl bottles returned to me with bioplast deponit stickers on them, there is a solenoid ( night shut off ) and it apears to have everything you need to get started.

    Recommend Me a CO2 System

it is worth having a look at this setup on ebay it is basically the bioplast profistar setup which in my opinion has a superior regulator to the jbl ones, mainly due to it allowing you to set the operating pressure manualy. I have been using a bioplast profistar set on one of my tanks now for...

    Volume limiter in XP?

shame, could be time to break out the soldering iron and a screwdriver then and reduce the output from the volume control on the speakers with a resistor or 2  If you ask on this forum they should be able to help you reduce the max volume the speakers can achieve.

    James3200s 6.5x2x2' planted tank - UPDATE - 26/06/09

with the current plant choice that tank will just keep looking nicer the older it gets, just need to get used to trimming the runners from the tenellus.

    James3200s 6.5x2x2' planted tank - UPDATE - 26/06/09

possibly moving the anubias in the recess at the heart of the wood and a smaller species where they are currently, but the vast expanse of the lawn makes the tank look very clean and uncluttered.

    Volume limiter in XP?

if they keep turning the volume, if you use a router to share an internet connection, and simply block their internet for a day, if that doesnt stop them make it a week, hit them where it hurts most, their msn / torrents which can easily be blocked on specific ip's in any good router. or run qos...

    sks's tank redo

I wouldnt recomend keeping the 2 together whilst the clowns are very small the amanos might have a chance of escape but with no hardscape for the shrimp to hide under they are more than likely to become lunch. controling snails is easy without the need for loaches, just control the amount of...

    Dan's New Tank

you could but discus are not just any fish ;) in the years that I have kept them I have had several attempt to jump, and know of many fishkeepers who have found their pride and joy on the carpet in the morning following something disturbing them whilst they are roosting. I keep several open...

Looks much cleaner now without the sag, a vast improvement in my opinion :)

    Dan's New Tank

nice looking tank :) your a very brave? man having discus in an open topped tank though, I would hate to wake up one morning to find one of mine on the floor after it had spooked it self during the night.

ADA 2007 winner video and others...

it is a very refresing style, the fish could be improved to suit the scape better but I could very happily live with a layout like that.

    James3200s 6.5x2x2' planted tank - UPDATE - 26/06/09

Without the stones it looks much nicer, replacing the sag with more tennellus would help to improve the look again.

    bristlenose plec

that is one of the most stunning plecs I have seen

    bristlenose plec

when I purchased the plec originally it was a xingu clown plec and quite small as i have usually asumed clowns to be, when it went into my 400L discus tank it promptly vanished inside a large piece of bogwood and has been slowly eating it from the inside out ever since. on one of the rare...

    bristlenose plec

I have a clown plec in my discus tank it is about 5 years old or so and has a very healthy apetite for wood, brineshrimp and beefheart and other meaty foods but I have never seen it eat any algae. at about 5" long now it reshapes the areas around the wood it lives in to suit how it wants to...

    copper connectors

copper in an acidic environment will be erroded to some extent if you have any inverts in the tank this can be detrimental to their health, you can buy stainless steel pipe in the same sizes as copper pipe which would be a safer option in my opinion.

    Juwel Lido 120 hood

Have found a clip on MH light unit that will accept my ada bulb locally for a good price so it looks like the hood surround will be staying put.

    Juwel Lido 120 hood

I have just purchased a juwel lido 120 for a project. I noticed that a juwel of George's has had the plastic surround removed and as this tank will be using MH lights, lily pipe ect I am tempted to remove the surround. Has anyone experienced any downsides to doing this on the smaller juwel tanks.
