    Buce varieties

Thank god for that, haha. I like my dependable, slow growing, low tech jungles 😅
  2. CanisDraco

    Buce varieties

Ahh, nice! Yeah, I've always had low tech tanks, so that's good. Great inspiration of a healthy low tech tank! Sometimes I feel a bit like I'm missing out on a lot of the colourful plants because I'm too lazy to faff with co2 and the like...

    Buce varieties

That is a beautiful little collection there, the ember tetras really complement the colours as well. I'll definitely try to pick up some of those types, I've certainly seen kedagang available quite a few places :) thanks!
  4. CanisDraco

    Buce varieties

Thank you! It definitely is! I'm just not sure where I would keep them since I don't have anywhere for them to go yet, except in my big tank which is full of algae and snails. I'll have a think...

    Buce varieties

Hello all, Been somewhat out of the game for the past few years, but I'm hoping to soon have a spare room in my house which I intend to fill with (at least) a couple of shrimp tanks. Back in the day there used to be all sorts of sites offering weird and wonderfully named bucephalandra varieties...

    Aquascape: Edens Gate

Oooh, I like! I'm looking forward to seeing this grow in and seeing the dragon swooping through his domain :D

    Buying plants from Europe

I ordered a load of plants from Europe a few weeks ago (bucephalandra) they all arrived in fine condition despite being the post for eight days. The seller should know how long they'll take to be delivered and pack them accordingly :) so yeah, I consider it worth it, I'd do it again.

    Hi from South Manchester

Hi from North Manchester :D nice sized tank you're upgrading to, I have two 125l just slightly thinner than that, lovely shape for scaping :)

Rare plants to order online London.

FreshwaterShrimp have a few bucephalandras in stock, other rare plants are listed on their site as well (and maybe in their sub section at the bottom of the forum index).

    Ivy

Missed these replies... Thanks guys :) I'll maybe bring a couple of bits to a new tank and have a bit of an experiment!
  12. CanisDraco

    What is it?

Thanks for this! Right, it doesn't sound too hard to do then, I'll give it a go in my room :) If it is a lilly type plants, like saururus, will it be okay growing without the water? I assume so, but I'm new to all this growing things in bags thing :p Also, thanks Darrel, that picture does show...

    What is it?

Hmm, thanks for the replies guys :) Someone else suggested nymphoides aquatica to me, but it doesn't have any of the little "banana" bits on it, although the leaves do look kinda similar to the pictures...another person suggested clinopodium brownie, although the leaves on mine look smoother...

    What is it?

Found this little plant floating in my tank today. Don't remember buying it and I have no idea what it is...anyone have a clue? :) ...it's floated into the mass of floating plants but I can probably fish it out for more pictures if anyone needs.

Okay, I will do this! Thank you :)
  16. CanisDraco

    Ivy

Right, you're a technical, well read lot - ivy wood, yes or no? I've been researching sporadically for about a year now and nobody seems to know if old, dead ivy is actually poisonous or if people are just put off by the fact that everybody says ivy is poisonous. The ivy I'm talking about has...

Anyone looking for a Nano LED?

Thanks for this link! Looking at putting together a small shrimpy tank in the next couple of months, this may well come in handy :)

Same with me, strange since habrosus and pygmaeus seem to be available all year round...

    corydoras hastatus

I guess they're seasonal Halloween fish :D I got nine yesterday, hoping there'll be some left at the end of the week so I can get some more :) they're cute little things.
  20. CanisDraco

    corydoras hastatus

Just an update, I've found them in stock in two places near to me (AquaLife in Leyland and Abyss in Stockport, if anyone wants to know) I've already got pygmys and habrosus in my tank but I may have to pick up some of these as well because I've searched for them for so long...

    Large wood in Manchester

Heh, I've visited the Aladdin's cave of Aquascaping before and my only wish was that I wasn't bound by buses :p

    Large wood in Manchester

Hey, no problem, I've had a busy past week myself, fired you a PM. Just figured I'd put it to the masses and see if any wondrous information revealed itself to me :D

    Large wood in Manchester

Good idea, thanks. They've normally just had mopani or red moor when I've been in in the past, but I've not looked at their wood for ages. Might give them a ring :)
  24. CanisDraco

    Large wood in Manchester

Heh, I've messaged Alastair asking where he got his lovely pieces from, just figured it's worth asking on here in the meantime :) shame I don't still live in the Lakes, could've spent a few hours in the forests and probably found something decent...
  25. CanisDraco

    Large wood in Manchester

Yeah I have, some very nice pieces on there. Just wanted to find something in the city if possible, I work every day so it's hard getting things delivered on times when either me or my housemate is around to receive a package and the depot isn't even open at applicable for me to collect...

    Large wood in Manchester

Gumtree and eBay are proving fruitless and the LFSs I know of tend to just stock redmoor for medium tanks. Just looking for somewhere with a nice range of different sizes and/or types, suppose I could go to Green Machine but, having no car, I'd have to navigate a journey or buses and trains and...

I'm going to end up with such a zoo :D

    Hi

I know this is a forum for aquatic things but any chance of a picture of the gecko set up? Would love to keep them myself, they're so cute! They're on the "when we move house" list :)

    how many tanks?

GlassWalker, surely you don't even need TV in that room :p jealous! I have four in my living room currently, one will be taken apart and moved to my bedroom to await some shrimp. Or at least that's what I'm telling my housemate, in actuality I will find a way to keep the four in the living room...

    Which Otos?

I have 12 otos in one of my tanks and there's definitely at least two different types mixed in there. I don't see much of them until it's water change time, then they come out on mass to "dance" around in the flow of new water. Very cute things :)

    120cm Planted Tank with Angelfish

Very nice :) Do you have a mix of neon and cardinal tetra in here? I've been trying to figure out which you have and I'm sure you're trying to trick me by keeping them mixed together :p

    1300 litre chocolate lake

Ahh, I just comment on this thread to ensure I get updates when lovely new photos go up and you cruelly take it away from me ;) Never mind, I'm very much looking forward to what you'll come up with next, especially since I'll be able to watch this one unfold instead of turning up late to the...

    Yo!

Oh, that's lovely Gruff! I was wondering whether to buy the new copy with all the complaints about the recent issues but I still reckon it's worth four of my pounds, especially if they'll show me some pretty catfish :)
  42. CanisDraco

    Yo!

    Yay, hi Gruff! :D
  43. CanisDraco

    corydoras hastatus

Yeah, my 70l tank only has the one cory and four otos in it and I'm already not looking forward to catching them! I'm dying to get more fish but there's no point since the upgrade is hopefully happening soon, I'd end up spending more time chasing them with nets than watching them swim about
  44. CanisDraco

    corydoras hastatus

My LFS often has shadow cats, they're really pretty and I'm considering going for them if my hastatus quest doesn't pay off... Will have to get a couple more pygmies regardless, feel bad for my little dude, he's being kept company by four otos atm but they're not the same, obviously! Thanks for...
  45. CanisDraco

    corydoras hastatus

I've got a pygmy cory myself, a lone survivor from a mysterious easter massacre, I'm hoping to get him some friends when I upgrade tanks. Initially I preferred pygmies to hastatus but now I kinda want them both :p It was this video that made me want them, so cute!
  46. CanisDraco

    corydoras hastatus

Yeah, I've heard that hastatus and pygmy shoal midwater and habrosus spend their time being like a "real cory" and sitting on the substrate. I'm very jealous of your guys Darrel, I can well imagine people asking if you have spare or where you got yours from etc, we need someone to start breeding...
  47. CanisDraco

    Yo!

Well there is an empty tank and an empty photobucket account that both need filling :p just scraping the last bits of money together and I'll be off into my first attempt at having a planted tank! :nailbiting: Thanks for the welcomes guys :)
  48. CanisDraco

    corydoras hastatus

Yeah, if I could find enough of them I'd like at least a dozen, maybe two dozen, I have no idea where I'd find such a large group though. I'd probably get them in groups of six if I had the option but, as you said, there's rarely even that many in one place...
  49. CanisDraco

    corydoras hastatus

Hey guys, been thinking about what small fish I want to stock in my future 125l and have fallen in love with dwarf corys, in particular c.hastatus, this may well be because I am contrary and they are hard to attain fish :p Anyone know why they're so much scarcer than c. pygmaeus and c...

    Yo!

Oh, that's bad :D Yep, currently planning how best to utilise my algae so it looks purposeful ;) hopefully one day I'll have a tank I won't feel so ashamed of around here. Best get planting!

    Yo!

Been a lurker on this site for months but I've finally decided to join :) hoping to get more into the planting side of the hobby in future, starting with my new "Roma" 125. Currently I can grow crypts, ferns and algae, looking to "branch" out a bit more in future ;)

    1300 litre chocolate lake

I've been meaning to join this site for awhile, now, having just read this entire blog, seems like as good a time as any :) This tank is awe inspiring, when I move house I'm hoping to set up a tank that will be even half as lovely as this. I have some practising to do in the meantime! If you...
