My Taiwanese shadow bees and F1

I just recieved 21 shrimp, all are happy and healthy and are in their new home which is my profile picture. Packaging was great and it made a perfect little aclimatising box :) Shrimp have nice deep colours and patterning too, thanks Vic

Can you help me become a "better" shrimp keeper?

Oh yeah yeah glowlights are absolutely fine with adult shrimp, but those that arent bigger than around 5mm may be eaten, and any babies seen will definately be eaten unfortunately

Can you help me become a "better" shrimp keeper?

In terms of your TDS, im not too sure how to work it out, and im not sure what mine is either, so apologies for that Thrills :( You might have to see what x3nith says about that one, its something I need to learn However what I can say is, im thankfully getting fantastic success with my mix of...

Can you help me become a "better" shrimp keeper?

Id personally go for a fish that wont get as big, glowlights will get around 4cm, which means a bigger mouth than things like dwarf rasboras and tetras like neons - but they are really nice.
  5. Jason Burk

Can you help me become a "better" shrimp keeper?

Okay, well you'll obviously be feeding your glowlights so the shrimp will get some food thats dropped down to the bottom, and most tropical flake has protein in it of some sort. On top of that, id recommend with your shrimp, using vegetables. This is a once/twice a week thing, spinach and...

Can you help me become a "better" shrimp keeper?

Okay cool, which shrimp were you thinking about? You might have mentioned this already but are you going to put any fish in there? Which food you add can depend on if you have fish too and what they like to eat :)

Can you help me become a "better" shrimp keeper?

Hi Thrills, what I do in terms of water is simply use RO water, add bee shrimp minerals from Salty Shrimp and then add Mosura BT-9. Ive never actually checked the GH or anything like that which I probably should do.. But Its almost as if I don't need to, the water seems to be perfect for them -...

    Missing shrimps

Hi Rob if you ever cant find any shrimp and are concerned, one of the best things to do is once the lights turn off, wait a while and have a look for them then - obviously giving yourself enough light to be able to look for them. From my experience, Shrimp tend to be more confident exploring...

African Filter Shrimp | Atya gabonensis

Hi foxfish Its strange to hear that your ones are always hiding, in my tanks I have a good platform for them to filter feed right in the filter flow, and they'll sit there for days, side by side, really not going anywhere else much at all. However its usually bamboo shrimp that do this more...

Do you treat or filter the rainwater at all? Ive personally never liked the idea of using rainwater because it can get polluted :)
  11. Jason Burk

    Blue Panda shrimp

I have my crystals at about 19 degrees, whereas cherries - as you have it - prefer it about 22 yeah
  12. Jason Burk

    Blue Panda shrimp

If you did want to get the cherries out of the tank, try using a tube like you get on those gravel siphons and suck them out into a bucket :) You know, assuming youve got somewhere else to put them haha
  13. Jason Burk

    Blue Panda shrimp

Yeah, Id go with the Crystals first if I were you, always best to have a species only tank but yes cherries (neocaridina heteropoda) and crystals (caridina cantonensis) are fine together in terms of behaviour. Crystals do prefer the temperature to be cooler than Cherries you see Both Pandas...

Yeah exactly, ive had to use patience haha - there is a display tank with eleocharis where I work that had spread in just a few weeks, something mine hasn't done in 4 months yet.. Oh well, its on the right track now at least

My Aquascape - Kīlauea - ( with Crystal shrimp only)

Ive moved both powerheads to the side of the filter now, you can see that there are very few bubbles reaching the surface now, and they are being cycled round the tank quite well, thanks :)

My Aquascape - Kīlauea - ( with Crystal shrimp only)

Thanks :) Been running for about 8 months, and yes I use re-mineralised RO, 40-50% water changes weekly :) With shrimp you can do larger changes, just do it more slowly. I use a siphen tube, 1cm wide to add my water slowly :)

Here's my tank - Kīlauea, modelled on the Kīlauea volcano The Eleocharis isnt growing too well, its getting better now because I increased the co2 but, im thinking of adding Riccia like in the centre of the scape all over the floor as a carpet. There's still lots more plants to add near the...

CRS setup. Is there anything I have forgotten?

Hey my friend, you seem to get some pretty awful luck :( ive never seen my CRS behave aggressively towards a female or kill her, and certainly never before she's released pheromones.. Mine just earlier today were shooting around the tank looking for the female, she was just sitting right out in...

RCS die after 2 weeks in tank

Well Im a bit weird in that I don't mind about the line of breeding or anything like that, any offspring I get will be good in my eyes :) Ive got some TiBee genes mixed in with lots of my shrimp, I mean yeah youre right I might not get as nice offspring but on the other hand I might get some...

Yeah 11 is a nice one, Hinomaru no-entry SS Nope with the females the second pair are shorter, probably easiest to see this with number 7 male:) With CRS its usually difficult or impossible to spot a saddle on them as you can with cherries for example, so I also looked at other things such as...

Hey dude, lovely little set up and shrimp you've got there! Number 2 is nice clear shot of a nice female :) and with the others its a little difficult but looking at the second pair of antennae I would say that 5 and 6 look like females to me. 7,8,10 and the closest one in number 13 are all...

RCS die after 2 weeks in tank

Crystals being far more delicate than most shrimp could even become stressed and die if you add the new water too quickly. It does sound like its something to do with the water, thats the problem with using tap. Id recommend using RO water :) How are you adding your new water to the tank mate...

Ive had them before in my shrimp tanks -only ever seen about 3 however.. , they can come from plants you've bought - Ive personally never seen one cause harm to a shrimp - but id get it out just incase - and also they do look unsightly in a shrimp tank I find :)

CRS setup. Is there anything I have forgotten?

Hi Kirk, just to let you know that the co2 and ferts shouldn't really have make a difference for the rate of breeding or breeding success as long as you don't overdose on anything.. It might be that your pregnant shrimp dropped their eggs for other reasons.. Or as you say it might well be down...

Could you explain further please? My drop checker at the bottom of the tank says co2 of usually about 28ppm - also I have a ceramic diffuser where the co2 bubbles are constantly pushed downwards to the plants by two powerheads. My plant growth was non existent before I added the co2 Thanks :)

  58. Jason Burk

CRS setup. Is there anything I have forgotten?

Yes I know, people who aren't sure about it are the ones who get concerned, and rightly so, you dont want to put in anything thatll harm the shrimp. Levels of co2 over 30ppm are shrimp harmful, as with fish :)
  59. Jason Burk

CRS setup. Is there anything I have forgotten?

It is yeah, I mean I use co2 injection and EI, which many people are concerned about with keeping shrimp, of course you should find what works for you - if youre concerned about anything its best just to place your main focus on you pr shrimp :)
  60. Jason Burk

CRS setup. Is there anything I have forgotten?

Of course if your 10% change every two weeks is working for you then keep up the good work :) I would however recommend you do at least a 20% change every week - with only a 10% every two weeks you are at quite a risk of ammonia or nitrite spikes, no one wants that :( I always recommend to...

Here's what I do: - I have a moderately densely planted nature aquarium - say 1 is no live plants and 10 is very densely planted - mines about a 6/7 - Obviously you should add more or less of the fertilisers depending on how densely planted the aquarium is, you wont want to dose a full dosage...

  68. Jason Burk

CRS setup. Is there anything I have forgotten?

Yeah no thats fine my friend, the best thing really with keeping Crystal/Bee shrimp is (of course get your parameters right first using things like the minerals) to just keep the parameters stable - for example its likely better just to keep dosing what you are and keep your TDS around 163 than...

    Shrimp Safe Fish

To be honest the only fish that I could say is 100% shrimp safe is the dwarf Otto catfish, anything else, even small fish will likely, even if they dont eat the adults (or individuals of about 8mm or more) eat the babies. Things like small tetras are fine with shrimp as long as they arent...
