    Co2 art regulator solenoid issue

Interesting thread as I had exactly the same issue with Co2 art regulator. After various checks and correspondence I gave up and now run Co2 247.

    Ada Solar rga fault

Hi all I have a 3-4 year old unit which has developed a fault - the colour has gone wacky, pinky red. My guess is that it could be the ballast unit however I can't seem to source separately or know anyone who can look to fix Any ideas would be appreciated Thanks

Medium Energy? - Running a low level of CO2...

It’s an ADA light - yes it’s quite high, 40 cms from the surface. It’s on for 10 - 12 hours per day. I should also say I’m running the v low amount of C02 24/7 and I have moderately soft water.

Medium Energy? - Running a low level of CO2...

Hi Courtney- I’m running my 290 L planted aquarium what I would consider medium tech - one bubble per second blue/green d/c. Only running one month but so far so good, almost no algae good plant growth and pealing end of photo period. It can def be done if you have the experience to get the...

    Wall brackets for Solar RGB

We just moved 3 weeks ago so I’m attempting to put this up my to do list! Will keep you posted, I’m keen to get this sorted next weekend. I also think it would be possible to hang from the ceiling with some very long wire, but looks quite specialist. My other house it was easy to suspend from...

    Wall brackets for Solar RGB

Bump! Any one have a view. Looking at the load the brackets look to be strong enough. I just wonder why this isn’t a common means of hanging light fittings. Perhaps takes a bit if basic diy and asthetically might not suit everyone’s taste?

Yep that’s right- however it’s a barn conversation so really high ceilings and pitched!

    Wall brackets for Solar RGB

Hi all I’m just about to move house and my Solar RGB will need to be hung differently (currently from ceiling) as new ceiling is too high/not level. Was thinking about hanging from a wall bracket eg Hi-Load Bracket 120kg White 250 x 250mm 10 Pack Anyone think this is a good/bad idea?! Can’t...

    Diffuser under intake

Definitely works, however as others mentioned it’s noisy and I’m not sure the impact long term on the filter itself. I personally much prefer in tank diffusion as I can see if there are any problems with flow or the diffuser getting dirty (which has a big impact IMO)
  16. T

    RO unit worth it?

I would say depends on why you want one? If it’s for plant growth I would say not. I would say much more important is optimising Co2. You will likely use more co2 with harder water but the vast majority of plants won’t care on the hardness of the water.

    SAE eating rotala?

I have a ton of moss and I have never seen them eat. Do you have enough algae in your aquarium? my observation is that the can eat all sorts of food /algae’s but they do have an order of preference, something like ....general fish food, algae wafers, soft algae’s like diatoms.....and if nothing...

Sounds odd to me- are you sure you have the true sae? I have all those plants and never seen SAE eat any only algae and various fish food!

    My new Oase 175 Styline

Without repeating everything already said, you should definitely take them back and the store should, at the very least provide you with the equivalent in credit so you can stock with more suitable livestock (in the past I managed a pet shop with aquarium section) in future I would do your own...
  20. T

    House Tank

Great - personally I would aim for a lime or even yellow tinged green as you don’t have livestock, but remember when you do add critters it’s critical that you start with zero co2 and increase gradually up to a green colour (i restrict my lighting when I do this to limit algae). it’s also key...
  21. T

    House Tank

I would leave them floating- best plants are the ‘weed’ like growers. Any floating are great, stems such as Rotala green, Indian swamp weed, water sprite, Pearl weed etc. Don’t worry about how it looks initially, you can plant and bin them later when you have hit the co2 sweet spot and the other...
  22. T

    House Tank

As you don’t have any livestock crank the co2 up and aim for a yellow/green colour on you drop checker. How are you filter outputs positioned? I would have them at opposite ends (diagonal). remove any decaying plants and keep up regular water changes a as no you will crack it! higher plant...

Thoughts on the ADA Background light

Expensive yes, but they look great to the right aquascape in IMO. I bought the Ada one in Japan and then realised it wouldn’t fit in my luggage so returned! As you would expect the build quality is excellent
  24. T

    500L room divider aquascape

Sorry just re read your posts and I see you are going low tech - I think the indirect sunlight won’t be such an issue, I was actually referring to balancing the Co2 if you were going high energy, so ignore that!
  25. T

    500L room divider aquascape

Hopefully not an issue for you then. The reason I mentioned is my smaller 240l ‘divider’ is south east facing and it gets direct light at differing times of the day. This caused lots of experimentation with the co2 times and levels. I’ve cracked it but was an initial pain in the backside! this...

  27. T

    House Tank

I think it looks great, impressive scape to say you are new to this! planting /co2 wise to me it looks as if you have quite a low plant biomass, you might be okay with all the waterchanges but I would personally suggest holding off adding fish for a white so you can add higher levels of Co2 so...

    Struggling to clean filters

I have always just ran under tap water - never lost any shrimp or fish this way
  29. T

First set up - please advise

Fish wise I’m not too keen on Black widow tetra - I was sent some in error by an online retailer instead of black phantoms; the phantoms are much nicer in my opinion. I like angels but if you do opt for them it will limit the overall impression of your scape - small fish like tetras I believe...

    Going filterless?

Yes I saw this. My initial thought is if I don’t clean my filter for say three months (which is basically all the time!) it’s pretty fully of I guess mulm and degraded plant matter. So without it being ‘caught’ in the filter it will be trapped in the plants and may cause more algae? would be an...

    Inline diffuser working pressure/BPS questions

    Diffuser making a strange noise

Yes that’s all correct. I damaged the seal on two aquario diffusers by just handling too heavy- basically when pulling the co2 tube off! 37. T

    Diffuser making a strange noise

It looks to me like you have a break in the sealant, hence the large bubble and I guess the hissing sounds. I doubt it would be easy to reseal so you might want to replace. I have the same diffuser and it’s the best I have used. I just purchased another one for a new scape and the membrane is...

How I get a flow rate of roughly 15 L hr? - unusual application!

Are they attracted to co2 exhaled? If so wouldn’t sleeping in a wet suit covered or surrounded in a sticky solution have the same effect? Either way hope you get it sorted as a friend of mine was infested and it wasn’t pleasant.

    Sponge stuck in lily pipe!

I tried the wire/hook combo, which led to pushing it further in! it’s not urgent as I reverted to the original plastic intake. I might try more pressure, I have a pressure washer, but I think the issue is the intake slits are so small

Persistent Hair & Other Algae Issues - What Next?

From what I can see in the pics the plants are growing and I think I can see the flow on your hairgrass, which looks strong. Oase biomaster thermo for a 60x40x40cm (90L)

    My new Oase 175 Styline

Diatoms come with most newly set ups- I don’t know the reasons but colder water won’t be one of them. My new Oase 175 Styline

It’s diatoms, which are no big deal, do frequent large water changes and add some algae eaters after a couple of weeks ( check out the tropic app!) Tips on growing Dwarf Hair Grass?

Hi Si DIY Co2 is quite difficult to get right as it can produce variable amounts of gas. Depending on your tank size the amounts produced may also be insufficient if you are using high light. if you don’t want to go the pressurised co2 route you may be better off ditching the diy kit as...

Fluval Stratum in pretty high gh/kh?

I take it you are concerned that you will get changes in water perimeters due to frequent large water changes that can negatively effect the fish? This will not be an issue, I live in Brighton and have equally hard water and have alwa used ADA aqua Soil (Africana and Amazonia) I do 50 percent...
  67. T

Fluval Stratum in pretty high gh/kh?

A clay based soil - Aqua soil or Tropica are highly recommended. I like aqua soil as it has very high nutrient content, although you need to plant v heavily from the start and water change daily for the first week or so as some leach ammonia.
  68. T

Anyone tried this to their Oase 600t?

Yes - and yes it makes a difference
  69. T

    Your substrate opinions?

Personally I would go either ADA aqua soil or tropica. If you are considering a particularly deep substrate you could use something like crushed lava stone if you need a cheaper option. after a year add root tabs replenish :)

    Why we clean media?

I have been doing my usual, putting off cleaning my filter media and was wondering what the logic is with doing so? I understand this must be completed if affecting flow, however beyond this why? Taking a sump. Back in five minutes...

That’s interesting thanks. I can grow most plants fine in hard water however I spend a lot of time in Japan using ADA system w soft water and this uses much less co2. No space in house for RO so rainwater it will have to be, thanks for the info re airation

That’s a thought. I presumed that using the existing walls would be cheap, however including my labour costs a wooden, modern and insulated off the shelf design may be best. We have been here for a year and a half and it is leaky. Just to find a competitive quote to dissemble and dispose off...

Do you use an external with lily pipes? If so you can position the power head in the alternate position to create a kind of whirlpool effect which is ideal for co2. Conversely I don’t as I have a v inquisitive son so I place the lily and powerhead together to max the circular flow. Hope that...
